Not to mention probably fake. It looks like whoever made it tried to make their writing "messy" like an elementary school kid

Its not a repost if its something orginal that you find/see and its not a repost if its never been seen on reddit before. However if it a repost on reddit and people are upvoting it they are all still people who have never seen it previously so I have no major problem with that. I just dont like when people repost something as the original claiming it as theirs. Also the title of the repost was stupid.

[–]JabberJauw 2 points3 points ago

I guess it is too hard to think of something original

[–]Karratti 12 points13 points ago

Ahhh yes I remember the day I learned to count to "the fat ones". What a good day that was.

[–]newtonp01 1 point2 points ago

Just like the time I learned how to count to "potato." I love that number.

Okay, so maybe I am overthinking this.

"There are 43 girls trying out for cheerleading." Okay. "Each cheerleading squad will have exactly 8 girls." Now, here is where I get confused. "Cheerleading" denotes the activity in general. Then they say "each squad," indicating more than one. What I think they mean is:

"There are 43 girls trying out for a cheerleading squad. A cheerleading squad must have exactly 8 girls."

The answer is 35.

or is it:

"There are 43 girls trying out for cheerleading. How many squads can they have, and how many girls will be left over and not make cheerleading?"

This is also possible, given the context of the surrounding division/remainder questions, but odd because often the number of squads is predetermined before the number of applicants is known. Then the answer would be "5 squads with 3 girls left to complain to their friends how unfair the whole process is, and the coach is a total bitch."

Given my history with vague math problems, no doubt I will answer the wrong one.

[–]EdricStorm 10 points11 points ago

I would have put 'Not enough info. How many squads are there? There can be 5 squads of 8 girls and 3 girls will not make the cut.'

[–]Bunnyhat 0 points1 point ago

It also ignores that there might already be cheerleaders unless everyone has to try out again every year which makes no sense.

[–]Frix 1 point2 points ago

Why not? There are teams where they don't let someone stay based on past performances and everyone has to earn their place every year again.

[–]Inthethickofit 5 points6 points ago

I thought the same, thing, I remember pissing off math teachers with answers like that.

The best answer would be:

#of Squads Cheerleaders cut

     0 43
     1 35
     2 27
     3 19
     4 11
     5 3
6 Error need 5 more cheerleaders

[–]sp00kyd00m -1 points0 points ago

dude... go outside. talk a walk. go to the pub. :)

[–]punkwalrus -3 points-2 points ago

Hahaha... if only you knew how that wouldn't help. I have a life so busy, my house is just a place to store all my stuff while I am away. :D

[–]joshjje 0 points1 point ago

I think it is pretty safe to say that it is assuming the reader should infer that there will be as many squads as possible, but only full squads. All the other problems are division. While it is a horribly worded question, it is clear they are looking for the remainder of (43 / 8).

[–]Karma_hates_me 1 point2 points ago

Common sense: it's the difference between smart people and successful people. I would think that given the material from the rest of the test would make your answer pretty obvious. Although, the question should have been worded better.

[–]barrym187 7 points8 points ago

Maybe I'm too old to have been taught division this way but what are the "D, M, S, B" for the four problem son top?

[–]MetternichMarck 2 points3 points ago

Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring down

[–]joshjje 0 points1 point ago

I too was confused, horribly verbose. This video explains it like youre 5 http://www.educreations.com/lesson/view/d-m-s-b-r-division/744038/?ref=link

[–]mick4state 0 points1 point ago

I also want to know the answer to this. It seems like a checklist. Some of them have checks (or Vs, not sure) next to them.

[–]sharkweekohyeahhh 1 point2 points ago

It says "How many" not "Which ones"...that answer doesn't make any sense. I am bothered.

[–]hapsbang 0 points1 point ago

The question didn't provide enough information for a correct answer. Had the question provided a value for the amount of "fat ones" he would have been able to provide an exact answer.

[–]sharkweekohyeahhh 1 point2 points ago

This is a good point. EDIT: My point was the format of his answer was incorrect. Even if the question had stated the number of fat ones, he should still specify a numerical value, not a qualitative one.

[–]brotoes -1 points0 points ago

Modulus FTW!

[–]ci23422 -1 points0 points ago

[–]MrBoujangles -1 points0 points ago

Kid only does long division to one significant digit, lazy as fuck.

[–]vadergeek 1 point2 points ago

How many squads?

[–]jellyfungus 1 point2 points ago

Wrong. They always let one fat girl on the squad to be nice. Then they quickly alienate her and make fun of her behind her back.

[–]Dorac1 0 points1 point ago

His answer makes sense atleast..

[–]thestallos 0 points1 point ago

Wow OP attained fagot status right from the start.

[–]bloiscool1 -1 points0 points ago

I'm a cheerleader and I'm not offended, it was actually pretty funny!

[–]auronvi 0 points1 point ago

I find there is always at least one fat one so it shuts up all the other ones from scream discrimination.

[–]PenisSizedNipples 0 points1 point ago

They need fat girls to be the base.

[–]Curvatureland 1 point2 points ago

fucking problems 6 and 7 don't give you enough space to do the division. son of a bitch i hate teachers who do that.

[–]chewyflex -5 points-4 points ago

How many? The fat ones.

Leems segit.

[–]jazzbraves9ersfan -3 points-2 points ago

there's always one fat one... there can only be one

[–]jesse950 -2 points-1 points ago

Reminds me of a questions I once read about. How much would you charge a city like Seattle to wash all of the windows? I believe the answer is about $15 a window.

[–]IzzGuildmage 0 points1 point ago

That's ridiculous. The answer completely disregards the size of the windows.

[–]jesse950 0 points1 point ago

EDIT: OK OK it's actually more like $0.50 a window for a total bill around $10M
