Any time I try to correct my professor, he turns out to be Chuck Norris.

[–]j0esj0es20 57 points58 points ago

I can just imagine that. Every single course you take you get a variety of different professors, but whenever you try to correct them, they turn into Chuck Norris and throw a paper at your face.

[–]OmegaArcadia[!] 44 points45 points ago

Also, as the paper hits you, you suddenly become black.

[–]Forever_Awkward 20 points21 points ago

That would suck. I'd make a horrible black person.

[–]UrbtoOSU 7 points8 points ago

Maybe you'd be less awkward.

[–]DJBJ 8 points9 points ago

You'd probably be cooler.

[–]Narnian_Factor 3 points4 points ago

And have a larger appetite for chickens of the fried variety.

[–]astralvortex 2 points3 points ago

And have a bigger schlong.

[–]plunderous_athause -3 points-2 points ago

Your mother already complains about mine enough as it is.

[–]404-shame-not-found 1 point2 points ago

Don't know why you're downvoted, that was the logically inevitable cheesy comment I was waiting for.

[–]astralvortex -3 points-2 points ago

1/10 Be more creative! Surprised you didn't tell me my mom goes to college.

[–]griter34 0 points1 point ago

You'd prolly have better credit

[–]skyman724 0 points1 point ago

I thought black people have bad cr-

NONONONONONO NOT THAT SHIT AGAIN!

[–]hooliahan 114 points115 points ago

you've tried to correct your professor more than once?

sorry dude, everybody already hates you

[–]orthag 36 points37 points ago

I bet he also wastes time by telling uninteresting stories about himself, somehow managing to get them to relate to the course material in the most tangential of ways.

[–]griter34 2 points3 points ago

There was a snob dork in one of my classes that spoke with the douche accent. He was always right. Everyone hated him. I hope he reads this.

[–]Tuvw12 -1 points0 points ago

I'm reading this and I must say that hurts my feelings

[–]griter34 -1 points0 points ago

Lies. I didn't pronounce any part of that sentence like I had a tampon in my mouth.

[–]sirblastalot 1 point2 points ago

I've had plenty of classes (admittedly, mostly philosophy) where the professor will make an assertion and EXPECT the students to debate him.

[–]BeatLeJuce 6 points7 points ago

It depends on what you're correcting them on: a quick "excuse me professor, but I think you've inadvertently swapped the sign on that equation when copying to the next line" is absolutely nice and understandable. It might lead to the professor taking less time in the derivation (as he doesn't have to wonder why his results are not what he expected and look for the error), and will ultimately be appreciated.

But correcting slightly wrong statements/generalizations (e.g. "excuse me professor, but in reality, the ROM of a motherboard isn't strictly Read Only, it can be flashed pretty easily") that were maybe even just made to simplify the explanation that noone (in the grand scheme of things) really cares about, is just annoying for everybody.

My guess (hope) is that you thought of the first type of correction while everybody else was assuming you spoke of the second one.

EDIT: someone else put it more eloquently

[–]kiwisdontbounce 3 points4 points ago

Thank you. You are correct. I would never correct a teacher on something that wasn't blatantly wrong and important to the class. And someone that would notice a wrong negative sign and NOT correct the teacher is not helping anyone.

[–]Praise_Jewish_Allah 6 points7 points ago

I just feel bad for you. There must have been multiple failures by your parents for you to end up like this. Trust me, it doesn't end here, this attitude will cripple your social and professional life.

Good luck.

[–]Valadar917 1 point2 points ago

I want some elaboration, mostly because the post you were responding to got deleted (because of neg karma). I believe it's a good thing to tell people the right information so they do not get bogged up in misconceptions.

For example, Yellow #4 doesn't actually do anything to male genitals, yet many will argue that it does, leading them not to drink Mountain Dew despite Yellow #4 being in far more food products.

[–]Praise_Jewish_Allah 1 point2 points ago

Basically he mentioned something regarding correcting teachers any chance he gets and people who don't can pump his gas in the future. He sounded like a child.

[–]Valadar917 0 points1 point ago

Oh, I see.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Praise_Jewish_Allah 3 points4 points ago

It's amazing. You do the exact same thing you would do in class right here yet can't grasp it. It's so mundane to you that its become invisible.

You know perfectly well what I was referring to. This sort of retaliation might have worked with your parents but it is just sad to experience an adult do this question game.

[–]BonutDot 0 points1 point ago

End up like what? What doesn't end here? What attitude will cripple my life? I'm not sure how correcting someone's mistake represents a poor attitude. Or maybe it was me not caring about asshole kids who hate me because I ask a question? Please clarify. (For the record, I would never raise my hand with less than 5 minutes remaining in the class)

This is the classroom equivalent of "sigh how fast does your radar gun think I was going?"

[–]kiwisdontbounce 0 points1 point ago

Metaphorically speaking, I seriously don't know how fast I was going.

[–]DragonRaptor 0 points1 point ago

i think they were trolling you, or live weird lives, I've always corrected teachers, co-workers, and trainers, and have made it quite far in life and have many friends. Its because I share my knowledge that people respect me, and look to me for advice. Remember, this is the internet, and people come to this site for entertainment, even at the expense of others.

[–]BonutDot 2 points3 points ago

Its because I share my knowledge that people respect me, and look to me for advice.

All hail the respected and totally mature DragonRaptor. ಠ_ಠ

[–]Valadar917 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for your great comment. I was seriously beginning to think that pointing out errors is an absolutely horrible thing to do, moreso than to say 9/11 to public audiences. I went through high school questioning the subject material because it helped me understand it better. However, some people do take it too far and become nitpicky, like "It's spelled Liebniz, not Liebnitz".

I can assure you that I am the former and I simply like to learn conceptually and in-depth rather than take anyone's word for it, like "This formula gets you the surface area of this function, now shut up".

[–]DragonRaptor 1 point2 points ago

Yes, just always be polite and respectful when you correct someone. Attitude makes a big difference on how people perceive you correcting them.

[–]Narninian 1 point2 points ago

Its doubtful your fellow students in college will be pumping your gas.

[–]Valadar917 0 points1 point ago

Personally I think college is closely related to high school in terms of the students. I don't think any of them act like actual adults who mind their own business. In other words, they're a bit judgmental and backbiting.

Also, the professors don't give a shit if they're partially incorrect, only if it's human error. For example, my professor can tell us a function to revolve around without explicitly stating the bounds, I can point this out, and he dodges it rather than works with me. Professors are there to do their minimal job and nothing else. If there's some concept you don't entirely understand, he just repeats what he just said a few minutes ago.

[–]aterlumen 2 points3 points ago

Sounds like you have some really bad professors.

[–]Valadar917 0 points1 point ago

I suppose so. I heard my physics teacher is especially awful.

[–]BonutDot 1 point2 points ago

No, they still hate you. They're just socially mature enough to not let you know.

[–]Ihateloops 52 points53 points ago

I don't understand the people in this thread saying he's a good actor. I did enjoy walker and the movie sidekicks, but never did I think "man, that chuck norris is a good actor."

[–]GD0512 79 points80 points ago

Nice try, Bruce Lee.

[–]Ceejae 43 points44 points ago

I just can't respect him or Chuck Norris jokes since I found out he's a bible thumping right wing nut job.

[–]Lottanubs 12 points13 points ago

Yea, that is word-for-word the Hivemind's opinion of him.

[–]Ceejae 17 points18 points ago

Oh, am I not allowed to have an opinion if it is commonly shared? Comments like this show that you don't understand the hive-mind issue.

[–]Lottanubs 3 points4 points ago

Well- eh... Yeah, you're right, but it just sounds dirty and more of a conformity than an opinion when you literally quote Reddit.

[–]WEASEL_DEVOURER 15 points16 points ago

Cats are evil

[–]rottenart 2 points3 points ago

Which also happens to be true.

[–]DarkSideofOZ 4 points5 points ago

Hivemind, shmivemind, the guy acts like a nut. My distaste for him is not founded personally on common opinion, but mere observation of his actions and his own words. Not to mention the fact that he tried to be a spokesperson for the 2 bit hack Huckabee.

[–]iwasntexpectingthat 3 points4 points ago

My mum got asked out to lunch by Chuck Norris once. She was working at the hotel where he was staying. This was back in the late 1980s by the way. They were filming in the Philippines. She said no because she was married to my Dad and he didn't really like him. My mum has a natural Filipina beauty look. Oh and she has big boobs.

[–]RambleLZOn 2 points3 points ago

You willingly posted about your mother's breast size? You are braver than I.

[–]DragonRaptor 0 points1 point ago

Because of sidekicks, i can climb ropes without knots, it was the one most practical thing i ever learned in a movie.

[–]WildSeven2 1 point2 points ago

Did you see him in The Expendables 2? It was kind of horrible... He was awkward, out-of-place and unnecessary.

[–]dlan4327 10 points11 points ago

Are you kidding? I found it utterly hilarious. It's nice to see all these old legends mocking themselves and just larking about.

[–]WildSeven2 0 points1 point ago

Don't get me wrong, the film was hilariously great fun. Whenever Chuck Norris was on it just felt weird though.

[–]ninjafaces 3 points4 points ago

I found not treating the movie as a serious action plot helped out a bunch. Just a bunch of old action stars having fun made the movie more enjoyable.

[–]Bamtastic 3 points4 points ago

This completely. One of them even says they are getting too old in the movie. What I loved about Chuck Norris in the movie is that he accepts all the Chuck Norris facts that were oh so popular a few years back. He played to what the younger crowd knows him as, and it was hilarious as hell every time he appeared. Even my dad was bursting into laughter whenever Norris came on and my dad loved Texas Ranger and all of his movies.

[–]heretoplay 1 point2 points ago

I swear his foot hit every time.

[–]HotwaxNinjaPanther 13 points14 points ago

"But professor, where in the constitution does it say that gay people shouldn't have a right to marr-" CHUCK NORRIS ROUNDHOUSE KICK

[–]OmitsWordsByAccident 3 points4 points ago

Maybe the U.S. Constitution doesn't ban gay marriage, but most state constitutions do.

What state are you from?

[–]HotwaxNinjaPanther 0 points1 point ago

Denial.

[–]turkturkelton 8 points9 points ago

Don't correct your professor unless they make some small mistake. We teach you all simplified versions of subjects because you are too stupid to understand it all at first.

[–]rottenart 2 points3 points ago

I can tell by these words that this is a real professor, guys.

Source: me too.

[–]TheUnknownFactor 1 point2 points ago

That's pretty funny, definitely not the case where I go to college anyway.

[–]turkturkelton 0 points1 point ago

So in Chemistry 1001 they explain quantum mechanics?

[–]TheUnknownFactor 0 points1 point ago

I don't study chemistry, I study computer science. Some professors are amazing and have a short informative answer to any question you might have. Other professors know the subject matter very well but are bad at teaching, and thus fail to transfer their knowledge.

Some professors are just sort of "general purpose computer science professors" and aren't specialized in the specific topic they're teaching; they often (some of them nearly always) answer questions with vague evasive answers or suggest you look it up instead. Some of the professors who don't know their subject very well can't really be blamed (ie; the normal professor for the course is in the hospital and the current professor is taking his place for the semester), others simply don't really care.

I correct my professor (generally by asking) because if I don't, I won't know for certain if I'm wrong or if perhaps the professor means it in some other way. I want to know how things work, that's why I'm going in the first place.

Yes people are going to think I'm a smart-ass, but I couldn't care less. In a few years I'm done with college- I'll have learned more than if I hadn't asked questions and I'll probably never see these people again.

[–]Valadar917 0 points1 point ago

I love that feeling where I already know the subject and I am listening to a teacher or professor explain it in vastly simpler terms.

[–]OBrien 7 points8 points ago

Was expecting Nigel Thornberry. Left disappointed.

[–]ned_krelly 13 points14 points ago

I would be amazed if Chuck Norris had anything to teach anyone.

[–]failed_novelty 15 points16 points ago

Karate?

The man may be a bearded idiot with an overblown sense of ego, but he IS a skilled martial artist.

[–]Swofford -3 points-2 points ago

Don't see why you got downvoted, anybody who can read just needs to check his wikipedia page to see what he's achieved in that field. For god's sake he even fought Bruce Lee !

[–]failed_novelty 0 points1 point ago

I'm speaking against the hivemind. Downvotes are to be expected.

[–]Swofford 1 point2 points ago

I'll go down with you brother.

[–]failed_novelty 2 points3 points ago

The hivemind does typically approve of people going down on their brothers.

[–]ned_krelly -3 points-2 points ago

Yeah, like 40 years ago. Any credibility he gained in martial arts went away with the pilot of Walker Texas Ranger.

[–]failed_novelty 0 points1 point ago

Why? I've honestly never seen the show.

[–]FenrirIII -1 points0 points ago

Beard grooming?

[–]sturg1dj 7 points8 points ago

It is one thing to point out when the Prof makes a small mistake, but being that person who constantly correct the Prof over the subject matter? Most people fucking hate you.

Reddiquette

Please Don't:

Complain about reposts. Just because you have seen it before doesn't mean everyone has. Votes indicate how the community values information, so just vote.

And how long ago it was last posted is irrelevant. If people were happy to see it, it will be upvoted. If they weren't, it will not.

[–]safariplanet 2 points3 points ago

aside from the "2 days..." comment, I really enjoy seeing these posts every now and then. It's always interesting to see which titles reaped the most karma, and I can always check the witty comments by clicking the hotlinks to the old posts.

Or I could become Trapped_In_Reddit and steal the old top comments and re-use them.

[–]EpicJ 10 points11 points ago

Search for duplicates before posting. That said, sometimes bad timing, a bad title, or just plain bad luck can cause an interesting story to fail to get noticed. Feel free to post something again if you feel that the earlier posting didn't get the attention it deserved and you think you can do better.

Nobody follows reddiquette anyway

[–]BrainSlurper 1 point2 points ago

[–]Stuckbetweenstations 1 point2 points ago

You probably think that this is a stodgy old professor.

NOPE! Chuck Norris!

[–]McLollington 1 point2 points ago

oh so you have discovered "college"

[–]crazypixeltoast 0 points1 point ago

Here lies jmbtadley90 He reposted a chuck norris gif R.I.P.

[–]orthag 0 points1 point ago

Your professor is an uneducated bigot?

[–]Pyrotechx 0 points1 point ago

I hate you people who always look for an opportunity to correct professors... Get over yourself, you're dumb. Natural selection just hasn't gotten to you yet.

[–]Wolf_Man92 0 points1 point ago

Chuck Norris don't fumble even for a second.

[–]TheMediumPanda 0 points1 point ago

That's some amazing acting right there. I think we all remember the outcry when the black kid didn't get the Oscar nomination.

[–]billiarddaddy -1 points0 points ago

Must have been at a Christian school.

[–]Namika -1 points0 points ago

Just an FYI, if your taking his class, then by the nature of your being a student and the professor being a professor, he defines "what is correct" in his lectures.

If he says 2+2=7 in this course, and that the sky is bright pink, well then then you better say the sky is pink and 2+2=7 when the test comes around. Once you get a degree then you can argue with him.

[–]gungnirsmaster 0 points1 point ago

any time i try to correct my professor, it works and they say "thank you"...

[–]arkythesharky 0 points1 point ago

Somebody with gif skills needs to turn that ball of paper into a downvote.

[–]TGMbroseph 0 points1 point ago

I didn't know Chuck Norris is left handed. You learn something new everyday, I guess.

[–]Raihimura 0 points1 point ago

[–]DelphFox -1 points0 points ago

Fuck Norris.

[–]HIFW_GIFs_React_ 1 point2 points ago

[–]OcifferWiggles -1 points0 points ago

I guess it's probably in a few movies, but isn't this almost exactly the same scene in The Substitute, with Tom Berenger? That thieving Norris.

[–]thatguy73 0 points1 point ago

How does that guy even have a head left on his shoulders?

[–]bpr2102 -1 points0 points ago

How do you recognise that this is obviously a fake?

If the real chuck norris had done that, that guy would be dead after the impact of that paper ball.

[–]DelphFox -1 points0 points ago

No, sorry... we're not doing those any more. Seem Chuck Norris is a total, unabashed douchbag, which completely took all the fun out of those jokes.

[–]SaltFrog -4 points-3 points ago

Chuck Norris is an a dick. Like, legit, irl. He's an Evangelical dick. The internet should stop worshiping him and start worshiping the dead idol Bruce Lee. THAT is a real man.
