We once visited the Star Trek: Next Generation bridge set. All the colourful computer screens had tiny quotes and messages on them, so that the cast members at "work stations" had something interesting to look at.

We also visited prop storage, and saw racks and racks of clothing(and endless duplicates), piles of photos and paintings, boxes of cereal, cans of soup and various other foods. There were also books and furniture from different years and decades.

There are people employed by the studios who do nothing but shop all day long. Year after year they gather items, so that when movies and shows are produced, setting appropriate props are available.

jesus christ people, they are called PROPS, they get re-used A LOT. Why? because almost no one notices and because it contributes nothing of value to the scene, its just filler...look up sound samples (for example the Wilhelm Scream is a popular one) to see how repetitive and boring Hollywood really is (nevermind the remakes and reboots etc)
