I like how the first link opens with "Reddit user recently noticed' and the article is 2 years old.

[–]DingoManDingo 106 points107 points ago

repost as fuck

[–]Sasquatch_Squad 10 points11 points ago

Like, from 2 HOURS ago. This is getting ridiculous...

[–]blackhawk465 -3 points-2 points ago

Too many new redditors that upvote this shit and downvote the people who realize it.

[–]GuardianReflex 0 points1 point ago

It's been ridiculous, and it isn't likely to change any time soon. The great circlejerk faps on, when it will end is hard to say...

[–]xel0s 2 points3 points ago

Faps usually end with a lingering feeling of shame and varying degree of mess to wipe up.

[–]Secrete_Persona -3 points-2 points ago

Yea well seems most Redditors just learned to type :\

Edit. just saying there seems to be a lot more of very younger folk on Reddit as of late.

fucking adbot piece of shit

[–]Dogtoggler 16 points17 points ago

Anyone else ever notice that the same police radio sound effect is used in almost everything? It's usually used for dispatch making a radio call in the background. I first picked up on it from SimCity (2000, maybe) back in the day. It played every time you clicked on a police station's info. Then I started noticing it in TV police dramas and movies all the time.

[–]kaiden333 16 points17 points ago

and the Wilhelm scream.

[–]zissous4 2 points3 points ago

what about the fire sound. It's like this weird sweep when a room goes up in flames

[–]chrisdub 0 points1 point ago

Eh, maybe. But it also legit sounds like that.

[–]szchm 0 points1 point ago

I think I first noticed it in the Truman Show, when Truman was trying to drive off the island into a 'forest fire' area. But considering the film, I guess the nature of the sound effect was appropriate.

[–]bonochromatic 0 points1 point ago

It's strange. I've pointed out the Wilhelm scream to my girlfriend dozens of times (and the female version as well), and even played the raw version for her, but somehow she can't hear it.

[–]AGoatOnYourDesk 1 point2 points ago

Is that the sound clip played when a firebat is killed in starcraft?

[–]stygiansonic 4 points5 points ago

May be confusing it with the Howie Scream, which is played when you select the Terran Academy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howie_scream

[–]AGoatOnYourDesk 2 points3 points ago

If my internet was less shitty, I would investigate. For now I take you at your word, Stygiansonic.

[–]sourcreamjunkie 2 points3 points ago

I have had it with these motherfuckin goats on my motherfuckin desk!

[–]bonochromatic 0 points1 point ago

But no, seriously, these goats have to go.

[–]blackhawk465 0 points1 point ago

Yep. The last time this thread was reposted the Wilhelm scream was brought up and I mistakenly said it was from the Terran Academy and found out I was wrong.

[–]kaiden333 3 points4 points ago

No, I don't think so.. Wilhelm scream. Firebat sounds.

[–]Randamba 2 points3 points ago

The firebat talks about propane, must be Hank Hill.

[–]irishmac3 3 points4 points ago

YES! I have tried to look this up with no luck. I remember it from an old spiderman computer game 15 years ago and I still hear it today in Law and Order, tv ads, etc. It sounds like "seven eight twenty five code six"

[–]zosoknight 8 points9 points ago

It's from a company called Hollywood Edge Sound Effects or something, on their Premier Edition, and it's called "Police Radio, female dispatcher"

It gets brought up from time to time, but incidentally I noticed it on Spiderman Cartoon Maker or something like that years ago. Here's a youtube clip with a list of all the places it's been. But really, chances are if there's a cop on screen you'll hear this clip.

http://youtu.be/dklA4-ACN4k

*Edit: wrong youtube clip, but still an overplayed stock sound. I'll try to find seven eight five, code six, one oh five north avenue... it's a bitch to get a sound byte or clip of it.

**Double Edit Extravaganza! As per Tvtropes.com, but also directs to that youtube clip with the wrong stock sound. Now I'm tired of looking and feel very silly for wasting this much time on it.

Generic police radio: a female voice going "Seven eight six five, code six, one-oh-five North Avenue . . ."

That, or some other police radio stock sound, was used throughout the Grand Theft Auto series and in SimCity 3000 when one builds a police station.
Someone has been compiling a list of occurrences of this sound effect on YouTube. Apparently Law & Order and The X-Files are indeed repeat offenders.

[–]irishmac3 0 points1 point ago

Thanks! and yes that was the game I noticed it from too!!! I dont really remember anything about it except that radio call

[–]redking315 0 points1 point ago

motherfucker, blast from the past....spiderman cartoon maker, the nostalgia is overpowering.....

[–]lildansonman 1 point2 points ago

If you are speaking of the spiderman animation studio, I used to play the shit out of that making ridiculous spiderman cartoons. So awesome that someone else notices that cop sound effect from that.

[–]LegacyZXT 0 points1 point ago

Ever notice that fire tuck siren sound, that sounds like its from the 70's, in brand new movies? Now, granted fire sires haven't change much over the years like police sirens, but still.

[–]RoB0x -1 points0 points ago

Now that you noticed that, notice that gun shots typically sound the same, Laughter, etc etc...

[–]abbrevia 1 point2 points ago

Children laughing I always notice, as its normally the same sound that played during the Rare logo being displayed at the beginning of Diddy Kong Racing.

[–]latecraigy 1 point2 points ago

There's a certain baby giggle that is used constantly. I even had it in a doll as a kid.

[–]abbrevia 0 points1 point ago

[–]latecraigy 0 points1 point ago

Nope, it's a different laugh. It's in lots of diaper commercials because it's a baby laugh.

[–]skizztle 0 points1 point ago

Yes god yes! Every freaking time I hear that I look around the room to see if any of my friends noticed it also. But alas none of them were gamers I guess...

[–]ParticipleDangler 0 points1 point ago

Hey, have you ever heard a waterphone before?

Yes, you have.

[–]Beetrain 0 points1 point ago

I know for sure it was in SimCity 3000. Same with fire dispatch. I hear both in movies and tv too. You're not alone!

[–]latecraigy 0 points1 point ago

Same with a baby cry. I noticed when I was little when I had a doll that would cry, then there was that identical baby cry sound in a commercial. Ever since then I've noticed lots of commercials, movies, or shows will use the same lilting wail. Also there's a certain baby giggle that's re-used.

[–]Locke57 9 points10 points ago

I wish people would come to the comments and see this, rather then post another one in about two hours, then a fourth in a few more hours, then that long ass picture of all of them sometime tomorrow.

[–]smoothchaos 2 points3 points ago

Dose any one know where we can see a copy and read the content?

[–]iagainsti 0 points1 point ago

You can buy one for $15 if you were so inclined.

[–]CoyoteStark 0 points1 point ago

Yup. No matter how many times we go over this Reddit can't seem to remember. And yet a meme from 5 years ago will get shot down in an instant.

[–]sdotsully 0 points1 point ago

Who's that riding into the sun. Who's the man with the itchy gun. Who's the man who kills for fun! Psycho Dad. Psycho Dad. Psycho Dad! He sleeps with a gun, but he loves his son. Killed his wife 'cause she weighed a ton... Psycho Dad!

[–]taxoplasma_gondii 0 points1 point ago

Thanks. I thought we'd have to go through all of the newspaper prop appearances thread by thread.

[–]jerisho 0 points1 point ago

This is why I love reddit, some guy posts something interesting but offers no explanation. Top comment explains it perfectly.

[–]umaerth 54 points55 points ago

I like to pretend Modern Family is an alternate future of Married with Kids, it fits so well, especially Jay divorcing his crazy ex then finding Gloria!

[–]slolift 26 points27 points ago

OMG Bud was gay.

[–]pastafariantimatter 28 points29 points ago

Who cares, Kelly's still hot.

[–]slolift 8 points9 points ago

And Claire "got around" in high school as well. It actually works.

[–]umaerth 6 points7 points ago

When Mitchell came out it was a surprise to no one. :D

Bud (David Faustino) is currently the voice of Mako on the animated series The Legend of Korra (A spin-off/sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender)

That wasn't really a burn, that was just an answer to his question; I don't think there was any real insult in that comment.

SCORCHED SLIGHTLY!

[–]lethargicwalrus 8 points9 points ago

Mother of God...did props directors all pick the same day to add a newspaper to their props collection? Too much conspiracy.

[–]theartfulcodger 23 points24 points ago

Property Masters, not props directors. Nope, we just call the company mentioned in lilbro's links, shoot the breeze with Paco or Fred for a few minutes, and ask what the weather's like in Sun Valley today. Then we give them a purchase order number, and ask them to pull half-a-FedEx-boxfull of NP-16's off the shelf and crate them up in time for the 4:00 pickup.

It's about as conspiratorial as Domino's getting yet another order for pepperoni pizza !!!!

Sadly, that particular page is no longer open stock. But lots of us have stacks of them in our personal inventory, so we just haul them out of the truck when an actor says, "D'ja think I kin git a newspaper ana cuppa coffee fer this here scene?"

[–]calicojones 3 points4 points ago

..why do they all sound like Injun Joe?

[–]Jonny_Watts 1 point2 points ago

Why don't they just grab the latest newspaper?

[–]kalsyrinth 6 points7 points ago

Continuity and not having to pay royalties to whatever newspaper

[–]theartfulcodger 1 point2 points ago

Can't reproduce copyrighted content for commercial purposes without permission. Studios don't like to give actual newspapers free exposure, because they normally charge tens of thousands of dollars for product placement. Newspapers don't like to allow movies to use their stuff for free, because all movies and tv shows have bazillion dollar budgets, don't they, so why shouldn't they get a few thou for allowing their rag to be exhibited?

Also, real newspaper contain ads, which are copyrighted, and every one of which must be legally cleared by the product and the ad agency. There are also pics of both famous and non-famous people, every one of which must be gotten consent for. This gets tricky when there's a photographer, a press agency like AP or Getty, and a newspaper publisher all arguing about which one has the right to negotiate with the studio.

Propmasters are under extreme time and budget constraints just like everybody else, so they just cut the Gordian knot by doing up fake ones themselves, or ordering premade, fictitious ones off the shelf. The intellectual property lawyers in the corner office can keep arguing, because by the time they sort things out, the movie's not only been exhibited, but by then the DVD's have been cut and are in the big cardboard discount bin at your local supermarket.

Also, there's the problem of many shows not wanting to be exactly specific about their location, or having a made-up one, like "Racoon City". Hard to find a real newspaper for there.

[–]ok_you_win 3 points4 points ago

We once visited the Star Trek: Next Generation bridge set. All the colourful computer screens had tiny quotes and messages on them, so that the cast members at "work stations" had something interesting to look at.

We also visited prop storage, and saw racks and racks of clothing(and endless duplicates), piles of photos and paintings, boxes of cereal, cans of soup and various other foods. There were also books and furniture from different years and decades.

There are people employed by the studios who do nothing but shop all day long. Year after year they gather items, so that when movies and shows are produced, setting appropriate props are available.

[–]Someguy_89 0 points1 point ago

Does that woman in the paper creep anyone else out? Like she watches you sleep at night?

[–]hattifinatte 0 points1 point ago

"Production companies use prop newspapers instead of real ones because getting clearance from an actual publication is usually more work than it's worth in potential fees and bureaucracy. " Aaahhh, makes sense (•‿•)

[–]chrisgrizle 2 points3 points ago

It's called a Movie prop they reuse them sometimes.

[–]wholetyouinhere 1 point2 points ago

To add to this, the events portrayed in these "movies" are often entirely fictional, or exaggerated for effect. Knowing is half the battle.

[–]wookiesandwich -2 points-1 points ago

jesus christ people, they are called PROPS, they get re-used A LOT. Why? because almost no one notices and because it contributes nothing of value to the scene, its just filler...look up sound samples (for example the Wilhelm Scream is a popular one) to see how repetitive and boring Hollywood really is (nevermind the remakes and reboots etc)

[–]RoB0x 1 point2 points ago

Yeah Like Ohhhh my god, get with it people!!! Cheese and Crackers.
