Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Submission Rules

Is your post not showing up? Do not delete it. Wait 5 minutes to give AutoModerator a chance to look at it; it approves most submissions automatically. If it hasn't shown up after more than 5 minutes, simply message the moderators and ask us to let it through.

For anybody looking for a source... Or just wanting to see the rest of the video.

[–]thewalkingfred 22 points23 points ago

Full volume. Scared the shit out of me

[–]TotallyKafkaesque 34 points35 points ago

That was so much better than this shitty gif. Hilarious!

[–]StevenViper 4 points5 points ago

Lost it at "Big Wonkers in My Bum"

[–]TheFluxIsThis 3 points4 points ago

Hidden Easter Egg Paynus

[–]ichorNet 4 points5 points ago

The riff being played is from Sybreed's song "A.E.O.N." btw. Great song.

[–]masterfap 0 points1 point ago

Pretty cool stuff. Is this some kind of obscure genre because I can look all day for new stuff like this and never find it. Got any recommendations?

[–]chewp911 2 points3 points ago

How does it automatically loop...

[–]TheFluxIsThis 0 points1 point ago

I laughed way, WAY too hard at this.

[–]Capt_Failure -1 points0 points ago

I'd find it funny but this seems to be one of those people with the idea that part of the reason for Bioware's fall is the use of gay characters, what with the "Big Wonkers in my Bum" thing. Bioware sucks as a company and they fully embraced EA's corrupt business practices, but let's keep the blame focused where it belongs.

[–]ScreamingSkull 0 points1 point ago

huh, that youtube video is repeating for me...?

[–]StorkBaby 44 points45 points ago

The best part about this is how it looks like there's maybe a naughty caress happening with the money right before the explosion.

[–]splitscreenershd 20 points21 points ago

To say that IGN gets paid by publishers to give out ultra positive reviews is foolish. To say that IGN gives glowing reviews to the hottest titles so as not to rustle any feathers with the big name publishers is likely accurate.

[–]GloStic 7 points8 points ago

That's partially true. But they have been known to do the opposite; where they give their opinion of a game that they think isn't good when sites like gamespot gave the game a glowing review (i.e. I Am Alive, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, etc.). BTW that wasn't a knock against gamespot, it was just an example. However, I do kind of think it's sad how people get so bent out of shape when the game they like gets a review score that they don't agree with. Mega 64 did this great video a while back called "Modern Games Journalism: The Movie" where they satirised all those commenters that would say "F you, IGN, only 6/10?!" and stuff like that. (see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko1sklmOR9E). Anyways, sorry for the tangent, just thought I'd share my thoughts on the matter :)

[–]mikeigor 4 points5 points ago

[–]Detsuahxe 1 point2 points ago

Damn it, you just broke my record for "not going to quickmeme and downvoting everyone who uses it any way." Warn me next time so I can avoid the link properly.

Anti-circlejerking: It's the new circlejerking!

[–]westcoastpopart 11 points12 points ago

"they have a different opinion than me so they must be payed off"

video game criticism has become a joke because of this mentality. reviewers are being pressured into giving conforming scores rather than writing their opinion.

[–]GentianTruth 5 points6 points ago

Paid-off reviews have been public knowledge for years. Did you already forget about Jeff from Giantbomb being fired from Gamespot for giving Kane and Lynch a score lower than what the publisher paid for?

[–]ABentSp00n 1 point2 points ago

That is the only example that I have ever heard of. Hundreds of games get reviewed by tons of gaming media sites every year, and I only know of one incident where this has happened. That seems to prove wescoastspoptart's point rather than yours.

[–]westcoastpopart 1 point2 points ago

yes i remember that.

not sure how that relates here. is the fact that you know of one review being paid off proof that an unrelated contrarian review is paid off? it isn't even the same site or publisher.

[–]zqube 0 points1 point ago

Publishers buy ads on review sites. If they don't like your review they won't buy anymore ads.

[–]AZ929 10 points11 points ago

I don't understand. The majority of the people in this thread hate this post (including me), yet it had so many upvotes. Not a single person in the comments is defending him/her. Where are you people that are upvoting this shit?

[–]FirstNewGuyReturns 2 points3 points ago

The lurkers are taking over.

[–]BurninTree5 3 points4 points ago

Unfortunately, we are the vocal minority who can see the circlejerk shit-hole that this place has become. The silent majority just sits back and "LOL UPVOTE, LOL UPVOTE, LOL UPVOTE" every single EA hating, Gaben loving, and COD hating post that is put up there, because thats what they know will be frontpaged

[–]DrPeacemaker -1 points0 points ago

we are the vocal minority who can see the circlejerk shit-hole that this place has become.

Said the pot to the kettle.

[–]Awesome_Penguin 2 points3 points ago

Who has pot?

[–]War_Junkie 2 points3 points ago

Snoop Lion

[–]WannabeGroundhog 0 points1 point ago

I'm in the market for some dank kettle.

[–]CaptainExplaino 1 point2 points ago

My theory on such matters of reddit.

"I hate this and it's stupid." <-----This person wants people to see their comment and upvote. Tends to not happen when the post gets downvoted. So they upvote a link they dislike in the hopes of netting them more comment karma. One aspect. I'm sure there are more.

[–]grachasaurus 0 points1 point ago

[–]kungfukai 24 points25 points ago

Activision does this, not EA.

EA is evil in other ways.

Activision has been paying out reviewers and having product endorsements for years.

I haven't seen one non-gaming/tech product endorsement for an EA game at all.

But ever since EA became really evil, people have tend to forget how bad Activision is and blaming everything that Activision does on EA...

[–]SacredJefe 19 points20 points ago

I've actually heard surprisingly little bad about Activision lately. I'm under the assumption that

A) Activision has seen how much shit EA has gotten and is content to just sit back and shut up for a while, or

B) More likely people's hate for EA has spiked up even more than before in the past year and it overshadows anything bad Activision does

[–]kungfukai 7 points8 points ago

I think assumption B is right on them money.

[–]Reservoiren 0 points1 point ago

Well if you play SC2 you'll hear about how Activision messed up Blizzard at the very least.

[–]ThatIsMyHat 3 points4 points ago

What did Activision have to do with Soul Calibur 2?

[–]zordee -1 points0 points ago

Starcraft 2

[–]ElectricSistaHood 1 point2 points ago

What is your source for the massive review scandal IGN supposedly continues to be involved in.

[–]Beatsters 0 points1 point ago

And wouldn't it necessarily include all of the publications that gave Mass Effect 3 a really high rating?

[–]AbsolutTBomb 0 points1 point ago

If you were a Castle Wolfenstein fan or hardened veteran of RTCW and Enemy Territory, you'd remember how Activision sold out to Microsoft and the XBox 360; destroying one of the longest running PC game franchises that ever existed.

They turned a PC game into a console port, changed the health and combat system to that of Call of Duty, grounded the physics that had set the Quake engine apart from other FPS's, and then made the game look like Soul Reaver with Nazis.

[–]JD_Crichton 8 points9 points ago

Mass Effect 3 had one of the characters voiced by someone from IGN. If that doesnt secure a good review i dont know what does.

[–]immaturewalrus 12 points13 points ago

Yeah, that news reporter thing for ME3 really bugged me.

[–]Paco-the-taco 2 points3 points ago

doesn't she also work for G4?

[–]pexy94 -4 points-3 points ago

what g4?

[–]Who_Sharted 0 points1 point ago

G4 good

[–]ElectricSistaHood 1 point2 points ago

Why would they need to put someone from IGN in the game if they're already supposedly getting paid mounds of cash to write a glowing review anyway?

[–]tiradium 1 point2 points ago

Blowjob?

[–]SwaggerLeGodwin -1 points0 points ago

It's actually a lesser known fact, but Rockstar also pays out reviewers... a guy who worked for an Australian magazine got fired when Red Dead Redemption came out, because he leaked that Rockstar had contacted him before he wrote the review.

[–]kungfukai 0 points1 point ago

Wow...really?

Which magazine, cause I live in Australia.

[–]SwaggerLeGodwin 0 points1 point ago

it was Zoo, if I remember correctly.

[–]Whiskey7 -1 points0 points ago

I think most big publishers do this in one way or another, I wouldn't say EA doesn't. When these companies buy ad space on a review site you don't know what 'premium' some are paying for what they're getting. It's probably become an unspoken truth where the two parties don't even talk about it, they just put down a big tip.

The first time I really noticed these paid reviews was with Hilary Goldstein of IGN with GTA IV. He was making really sensational statements just pumping that hype machine as much as he could. "This game is better than The Legend of Zelda: Orcarina of Time."

Rockstar must have treated them very well for that one.

[–]kungfukai 0 points1 point ago

I wonder if any reviewers out there wished they would be able to do an honest review but because they work at a major website or magazine it could possibly end their employment there.

[–]notsurewhatiam -2 points-1 points ago

No wonder COD receives such high reviews.

[–]ABentSp00n 56 points57 points ago

Well, I'm officially done with this subreddit. /rgaming is a shit hole. I realize that none of you care, and my comment is probably just as annoying as this post, and for that I'm sorry. But seriously, the amount of good content that actually becomes visible on this subreddit is just so small. I'm tired of seeing people upvote things as ridiculous as this. OP had the audacity to call this satisfying as well. Regardless of whether you believe this shit or not, this gif shouldn't be satisfying for anybody.

[–]drysart 7 points8 points ago

It took you this long to figure it out? /r/gaming's been a wasteland as far back as the Digg diaspora. Such is the sad fate of every default reddit.

[–]befege 24 points25 points ago

r/Games would be your good alternative my friend.

[–]Fyrus 18 points19 points ago

I once would say that, but if you read the thread about Greg and Ray leaving Bioware, you would know that /r/games is JUST as biased as r/gaming.

[–]nnnddd202020 15 points16 points ago

But at least it doesn't have all the Gaben/le gem/[game] logic/meme posts.

[–]_Meece_ 3 points4 points ago

God fuck the comments in that thread made me face palm. They didn't decide to retire because they hated EA. They just wanted to retire.

Did Bill Gates hate Microsoft when he retired? Fuuucking hell. I could understand if they actually left the company to go start up their another studio or something, but no they're just retiring.

[–]Fyrus 3 points4 points ago

Exactly, and I also have the feeling that they didn't have much DIRECT involvement in the games Bioware made for many years now, maybe even ranging back to KOTOR.

[–]_Meece_ 1 point2 points ago

Yeah it's been awhile. They seem to just have been leaders and businessmen.

[–]jusksmit 3 points4 points ago

I think it's hard for any community, serious or slapstick, to side with Bioware on this issue. The only difference is that on r/gaming, we use a GIF to express disdain, and on r/games, we calmly and rationally discuss how hard Bioware fucked up.

Brave, I know.

[–]Fyrus 1 point2 points ago

To side with Bioware on what issue?

[–]jusksmit -1 points0 points ago

The quality of Mass Effect 3, especially in contrast with the ratings it received from major reviewers.

[–]Fyrus 11 points12 points ago

Mass Effect 3 was just as good, if not better, than the other two... Besides the ending, it was a pretty damn good game. Obviously this is all my opinion, but I don't see how anyone that played the first two Mass Effect games, and enjoyed them, could dislike Mass Effect 3... it improved upon almost everything. Even the multiplayer was enteretaining... Bioware wanted to make a blockbuster space-opera title, and they did. It's not complex, it's not deep or meaningful most of the time, but it's what Bioware wanted to make, and they obviously put a shit ton of effort into it.

Aside from all that, why does anyone care what comes from IGN? The site is the Fox News of gaming.

[–]Beatsters -1 points0 points ago

I agree completely. I don't remember there ever being any controversy over the reviews that the first two in the series got and ME3 is certainly better.

[–]DinosaurHelmet 0 points1 point ago

The writers publicly apologized for how it ended...

The game itself was pretty good, but the storytelling in the third game was terrible compared to the other two.

[–]AlexthePwner -1 points0 points ago

r/truegaming is where it's at

[–]gman96734 0 points1 point ago

It is refreshing to see people not only have an opinion, but think it out, justify it. Instead of saying "Ugh Diablo 3 sucks!" you would likely get "I dislike Diablo 3, here's why.". It's a nice place to be.

[–]Jinnofthelamp 1 point2 points ago

Unsubscribe from /r/gaming and subscribe to smaller gaming subs. /r/gaming is a default subs and unfortunately the average IQ is a bit lower. Smaller subs seem to attract people who at the very least take a minute to consider a post before voting.

[–]blackhawk465 0 points1 point ago

Even better is how much you get upvoted. A lot of sensible comments get the upvotes they deserve but it's the retards that mindlessly upvote and move on.

[–]ruckus_randall 0 points1 point ago

Just keep thinking we care. You'll be back.

[–]Fallout4Crazy -2 points-1 points ago

Why do you take these things so seriously? It is r/gaming, for god's sake. That's right, it is a forum on the internet dedicated mostly to games in which you either kill a person or do stupid shit. It's not meant to be so serious.

[–]imthefooI 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry you feel that way. I laughed my dick off. Just goes to show we're all different. Go find something you enjoy and do it (like playing video games).

[–]iloveusomuchithurts 3 points4 points ago

Idk why people hate EA, I mean they make great games like Mass Effect, Fifa, other sporting games, etc. and I am not seeing them do a very bad job at it like Valve and others are. I bought CS:GO on xbox a month ago but the lag issue is still not fixed or even addressed. There are still about a couple hundred people complaining in the forums everywhere including xbox's and no fix yet.

[–]Oraln 1 point2 points ago

I could be wrong but I don't think valve does their own console ports

[–]greentoof 0 points1 point ago

in fact EA did the horrendous port of The orange box to ps3, Wait so how do we avoid taking about Ea bad valve good again?

[–]GorgeouslyHumbl 0 points1 point ago

Mass Effect wasn't made by EA - it was made by Bioware.

[–]paxcorpus 7 points8 points ago

This is an example of gamer tin-foil-hattery.

[–]Mushroomer -1 points0 points ago

Is it really? I thought after the whole Kane & Lynch fiasco it was common knowledge that mainstream gaming press is more corrupt than the Russian government.

[–]ABentSp00n 2 points3 points ago

One incident. One incident in a completely different company. That's all that I've heard of in the last several years at the very least. This is indeed an example of tin-foil-hattery.

[–]Beatsters 1 point2 points ago

If anything, the big reviewers have learned that a little extra favour from the advertisers isn't worth the potential brand damage.

[–]SoberPandaren 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, but ME3 did get pretty good scores from people who weren't IGN or mainstream bloggers.

[–]FillionMyMind 21 points22 points ago

1) Repost.

2) Source that proves EA "pays IGN"? Any time someone says this and I ask for a source, no one can ever give me one.

And don't even think about saying "lulz becuz masseffect tree gawt a NINE.FYVE".

[–]cadaveric 4 points5 points ago

It´s simple: EA is literally Hitler.

[–]lightatenear 1 point2 points ago

But I thought Hitler did nothing wrong?

[–]androd29 0 points1 point ago

What does a drink have to do with a gaming company?

[–]ThatIsMyHat -1 points0 points ago

OK, then. EA is literally Nero.

[–]PurgeTheseDays 2 points3 points ago

OP's username reeks of irony

[–]Knov 0 points1 point ago

I say chap, that's rather brave of you.

[–]Candidcassowary 9 points10 points ago

Don't up-vote this shameless repost. It's not relevant to anything and it's old as hell.

[–]metro99 15 points16 points ago

I upvoted to spite you.

[–]Arterra -1 points0 points ago

how about I upvote you to spite him twice?

[–]iGametooMuch 1 point2 points ago

Spoiler >.> 7/10

[–]JD_Crichton 3 points4 points ago

Its not a spoiler. It was a theory that the extended ending fucked up.

[–]BJUmholtz -1 points0 points ago

So should I bother? Ever?

[–]Kniepic 1 point2 points ago

In reality I don't think too many "reputable" review websites/forums/mags/etc get paid off for reviews with actual cash.

However, the reviews and all are EXTREMELY biased because they get paid off with inside scoops/"leaked" pics/first interviews/etc.

If a reviewer trashes a game or company then when it comes time to get the latest news on some big ticket item, that negative review might come back to bite them. On the flip side, however, if the reviewer just lavishes the product/company with praise then when it comes time to get that inside scoop they can say "Hey, remember when we gave your last game a 12 out of 5? Eh? Eh?"

[–]polishinator -1 points0 points ago

this is amazing! Thx

[–]anikan72 1 point2 points ago

IGN does not take payment for their reviews. Suggesting that is actually a pretty serious accusation... ...WTF am I saying? this is r/gaming, no one gives a shit. They'd rather drink down every bit of EA-bashing-Gabe-Newell-praising-Pokemon-deifying sputum that someone shits out onto this subreddit. I'll see you sensible redditors in r/Games

[–]senics 0 points1 point ago

The Mass Effect 3 metacritic score is still around the 90s. Does that mean EA is giving away brides to every game reviewer with a solid reputation?

[–]madhi19 0 points1 point ago

Look like I found the "We hate EA" daily circle jerk! Carry on I also hate the bastards!

[–]wren5x 1 point2 points ago

What .gif hoard?

[–]Chrischn89 0 points1 point ago

[–]BandyGreensacks 0 points1 point ago

I almost loved this GIF, but the last 0.5 seconds completely ruined it. Fuck GIFs.

[–]ninjablaze 0 points1 point ago

Mass Effect 3 was a legitimately good game.

"Paid off" scores or not.

[–]Sharradan 0 points1 point ago

[–]Tonkatheturtle 0 points1 point ago

20's! what is this poor-ville!?

[–]skyman724 -1 points0 points ago

Something's wrong with that GIF...........

I saw the words "Mountain Dew".

[–]Knov -1 points0 points ago

  1. Don't go to IGN or buy EA prodcuts
  2. Stop submitting shitty content
  3. ???
  4. Profit!

[–]ShawnDawn -1 points0 points ago

And Activision too, but they probably give money to everyone, the reviewers!

[–]HeyYouGoFuckYourself 0 points1 point ago

HOW DARE YOU SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THE PUBLISHER OF STARCRAFT, LOL KOREAN RUSH.

[–]rounced -4 points-3 points ago

People still frequent IGN and Gamespot? Huh.....TIL.

[–]i_killed_hitler -2 points-1 points ago

My guess is bored kids in the magazine aisle at the grocery store while their parents shop.

[–]Paco-the-taco 0 points1 point ago

you realize these are websites, right?

[–]Wheat_Grinder -3 points-2 points ago

It was more satisfying the first time it made the loop, which was a loooooong time ago.

[–]knighmare -3 points-2 points ago

still so relevant

[–]rottenseed -4 points-3 points ago

wait...wait...so this game really is shitty and I'm not just some video game contrarian?
