Stalin. Pol Pot. Napoleon. Kim Jong Il. Mussolini. Chairman Mao.
Atheism > Theism, if you count your deaths in the millions.
Edit: Haha! Chickenshit downvotes and not one attempt to contradict the facts: atheism kills.

Napolean was Catholic, though more accurately a deist, not in any way an atheist.
Kim Jong Il was the head of a religion centered around himself, a modern god-king.
Stalin was the head of an extremist communist party, none of his actions were motivated by his disbelief in god, almost all of them were motivated by his hunger for power, the rest by his psychopathy. Ditto Mao. Ditto Pol Pot.
This argument is older than the internet, and it was retarded the day it was formulated. Especially when comparing the amount of death caused by the Crusades, the Inquisition and Third Reich.
[–]BugLamentations -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 hours ago
The "amount of death caused by the Crusades and the Inquisition" are negligible compared to the body count of the atheistic dictatorships of the 20th century's worst monsters.
Napolean described all religions as "man made."
Kim Jong Il's self-deification is in no way contrary to his atheistic leanings - he simply used the cult of personality to promote his political power.
Stalin's "disbelief in god" is the ground in which his bloody reign was rooted - I defy you to find a comparable Christian leader with anywhere near the body count.
And to claim that the neopagan /atheist Third Reich was a Christian movement is the ultimate atheist fallacy, cherry-picked and historically inept "Hitler was a Christian" quotes notwithstanding.

Your argument has a fatal flaw. If a leader is a theist, he could be any of the thousands of religious sects out there. If he's nonreligious, he is one of two things: Nonreligious, or atheistic. Some people consider both the same. It is simply stupid to try and compare solely Christian deathcounts with atheist deathcounts, because seriously, there have been a lot more atheists than Christians. Go tally up ALL deaths motivated by religion, and compare them to all deaths motivated by atheism - you'll theistic murders to be a lot higher.
Also, most religious leaders kill in the name of their god(s). Most atheistic leaders do not.
Napoleon was a deist, and still described religions as "man made," but he did believe in a distant and uncaring god, and revered Catholicism, though it is mostly unclear whether this was out of required respect, or because of the immense social greatness he believed it brought.
Kin Jong Il believed he was a god; he was as brainwashed as his followers were. I would not call him an atheist.
Stalin was a psycho. Most if not all of his atrocities were committed because he was extremely paranoid. Little of it was due to his atheism, and, as I already said, the man was insane. Blaming an entire group of people for what one insane follower did is stupid.
Now on to Hitler. Truth be told, that paragraph is leading me to believe you're a troll. Hitler believed in a very distorted version of Christianity; that is, he believed in an Aryan Jesus that fought against the Jewish. Mein Kampf gives several insights into Hitler's religious views, mostly that he believed he was doing god's work. But Hitler also had mental issues, and his view of reality was heavily distorted by drug abuse, so I personally would not count his actions representative of Christianity as a whole.

Some bad guys happened to be atheists--but they never killed to convince people to convert to some superstition. More people have been killed and tortured in the mission to force everyone to submit to the "spokesmen" for a myriad of magical super beings.

You want evidence? Go pick up a history textbook.
[–]Mantonization 0 points1 point2 points 10 hours ago
Connect their atheism to their actions. Go on.
You can create such a connection with religion. 'My God / Holy Book / Priest says I should kill these guys, therefore it's morally correct of me'
Whereas 'I don't personally believe a deity exists -> ??? -> It's morally correct of me to kill people'? There's no logic to that.
[–]BugLamentations -2 points-1 points0 points 10 hours ago
I don't personally believe a deity exists --> Whatever whatever, I'll do what I want --> It's morally correct of me to kill people.
That makes no sense. For a start, you're assuming that people purely base their actions and decisions on what they believe their God tells them to do. Which I can guarantee is wrong with even the most zealous of fundamentalists.

Charlemagne, John Hunyadi, Pope Urban II, Pope Innocent III, Tomás de Torquemada, Adolf Hitler, and other vast decades-long Christianity-motivated movements like the Spanish Inquisition, the slaughter of the Native Americans, the witch hunts in various European countries etc.

God has killed many more than all of them put together. Your move.
[–]BugLamentations 0 points1 point2 points 4 hours ago
If the Catholic God doesn't exist, then your argument is meaningless.
If He does, than it's ridiculous.
Your move.
