I don't know what you guys are making such a big deal about. This is just the first interview you take when you apply to work for redbull.

[–]poopa_scoopa 3 points4 points ago

Let's not forget that you have to base jump with a flying suit to just even be able to submit your application into a post box fixed into the side of a cliff

[–]imahugger 2 points3 points ago

Well that goes without saying...

Those...are gliders... O.o

One hell of a soft-drink company. Can you imagine how much less awesome the world would be without redbull funding people's pursuit of the ultimate adrenaline rush?

This comment brought to you by Red Bull.

[–]Dax420 14 points15 points ago

Not nearly extreme enough for that I'm afraid. I recently bought a GoPro because of all the amazing videos I keep seeing online. Turns out my life is actually quite boring. I mostly film my dog doing stupid shit.

[–]Incursus 7 points8 points ago

Have you ever wanted to fly RC airplanes? Most park-size planes will lift a go pro, and you'll get some awesome aerial video!

[–]MiracleBlue 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit, I need to try this.

[–]t_b 4 points5 points ago

  1. Strap GoPro to your dog.
  2. ???
  3. Profit

(Actually this has been done already).

[–]therollingtroll 8 points9 points ago

Makes me want to go buy a couple.

[–]Flyboy_6cm 9 points10 points ago

An oldie but a goodie. IDK how those gliders can hold that guy up with balls so big.

[–]PhantomPhun 0 points1 point ago

I am confused daily by Internet posters who still make a giant testicles comment. Is supposed to still be funny? Original? Shocking? What?

[–]Flyboy_6cm 0 points1 point ago

Jaded...

[–]mooseKaboose 0 points1 point ago

This is the most legit thing I've seen all day!

[–]freshyrocks 2 points3 points ago

I drink Red Bull purely because they support 2 of my favourite things flying and Formula 1. Plus all the other cool stuff they do. It is a pity the son of the owner is about to get away with murder.

because why not

[–]20filtercigarettes 1 point2 points ago

Blanik?

[–]Moemanau 1 point2 points ago

A Czech glider, I learnt to fly in them, most have been grounded since this event and will never fly again (they can be modified but the process costs more than the gliders are worth)

[–]mnp 0 points1 point ago

What? Who's grounding Blaniks, and why? Any links?

[–]llII 1 point2 points ago

Here are some information.

They have problems with their structural stability (or however this is called) and are no longer allowed to fly until you repair it.

[–]mnp 1 point2 points ago

Guess it's old news, thanks guys. It's the US also; here's the FAA AD.

This is a little scary because I learned to soar in it and fully took advantage of the acro and high G limits ( +5.3/-3 with 2 ppl, +6 /3.5 for 1 ppl) source. Knowing there's a fatigue defect means it could have parted any time and we were lucky.

[–]Moemanau 1 point2 points ago

Sorry I should have been more specific, the L13 type is grounded. Super Blaniks and whatever the single seat variant is called are still airworthy.

Jesus fuck!

I just don't understand how those gliders manage to stay aloft with that mans giant testicles weighing them down. Its simply not aerodynamically feasible

[–]Innominate8 1 point2 points ago

Surprisingly, weight has no effect on how far a glider can travel.

[–]companiondanger 7 points8 points ago

Very slightly incorrect. Although just for the induced drag profile curve you are correct, shifting the best glide speed to a faster IAS does add slightly to the profile drag component. For a tangent drawn from the origin, we have a SLIGHT reduction in L/D.

You are correct, but not technically so. :(

[–]PhantomPhun 2 points3 points ago

Theoretically there, but ripping the wings off a thirty ton glider because you have to fly it at 500 knots to stay aloft kind negates the usefulness.
