[–]triactry03 6 points7 points ago

Scoreboard!

[–]gazzawhite 9 points10 points ago

I remember that game, they almost charged Barney with an error.

[–]cralledode 931 points932 points ago

Pros? You do realize that's the Astros, right?

[–]asstits 554 points555 points ago

You just made the only Astro fan cry here in Reddit.

[–]commentor2 176 points177 points ago

Actually there seem to be 522 /r/Astros

[–]BradGroux 117 points118 points ago

Hey, two more have joined us!

[–]extrasweettea 116 points117 points ago

I subscribed just to be apart of something

[–]ocxtitan 147 points148 points ago

You should unsubscribe just to be apart from something.

[–]Testsubject28 43 points44 points ago

Or he could join r/cubs and be part of something next year...

[–]gazzawhite 24 points25 points ago

Not next year. Maybe 2015. I'm serious, remember this!

[–]teeohdeedee123[S] 28 points29 points ago

I also believe the Back to the Future prophecy.

[–]DrKnockers04 35 points36 points ago

You know what else, they also predicted they beat Miami... THERE WASN'T EVEN A MIAMI TEAM WHEN THE MOVIE WAS MADE!

[–]dwade420 22 points23 points ago

Or the next year, or the next year, or the next year, or the...fuck it just give them the damn trophy

[–]Eighteensixtythree 3 points4 points ago

We're one of those dimensions where the Cubs won a world series. Somewhere theres a dimension where my Mariners have hoisted the trophy - what a wonderful place it must be.

[–]Polite_Toad 16 points17 points ago

There are literally dozens of us!

[–]monroseph 10 points11 points ago

Over 3 million people in Houston, with 8,000 in the /r/houston subreddit, more subscribers than /r/texas and /r/Astros only have ~500.

Amazing. I'm from Texas, and I am not subscribing.

[–]theprodigy77 9 points10 points ago

I mean you do have the Rangers...

[–]theflyingdog 9 points10 points ago

I am no longer an Astros fan i'm a Disastros fan..

[–]greatgerm 0 points1 point ago

I would have said such a thing didn't exist if people hadn't admitted to it.

[–]trmaps 1 point2 points ago

Gasp... I thought I was the only one. I can't believe there are others

[–]thelovepirate 45 points46 points ago

I still love my 'Stros. I'm just hoping we get 50 wins this season.

[–]poopdollaholla 29 points30 points ago

hey we made the series in '05 nobody talks about that

[–]WonAndDone 21 points22 points ago

From a White Sox fan, my condolences.

[–]poopdollaholla 13 points14 points ago

I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried like a baby when our best closer allowed a grand fucking slam.

[–]whollo918 2 points3 points ago

We were so excited to be in the world series...!

...And then we got swept.

[–]Lsufunbox112233 6 points7 points ago

Whenever people make fun of the 'Stros I rewind to that season.

[–]nick22tamu 3 points4 points ago

remembering that season just made my day. Oh i remember the 18 inning game; they stopped selling anything in the 7th and shut down the AC in the tenth, yet we stayed, we all stayed until that glorious ending. I actually went to a game this year and people left in the 5th inning, the motherfucking 5th inning! I know we suck but it actually cost MONEY to buy the tickets, what a waste. Anyway, that game was the coolest sporting event i have ever seen, the roof was closed and all the fans cheered so loudly; I also remember that 1 guy caught the home run to tie it in the 9th and send it into extra innings AND the 3 run homer that won the game in the 18th (it was awesome).

[–]Willcagney313 4 points5 points ago

Hey you guys won against the phillies 3/4. No worries

[–]thatonekid18 8 points9 points ago

Astros fan here... single tear

[–]Mmarketting 10 points11 points ago

I'm English, and I have no idea what is going on here. Can someone explain why this is 'how the pros play'? I've never played baseball, so I can't even if this is sarcasm!

[–]Sphenodonta 29 points30 points ago

It's a mad scramble for the ball and people throw the ball far past who they were aiming for. If anything, this is more reminiscent of a little league game played by ten year-olds than of a professional match.

The title is intended as mocking sarcasm. The Astros are, I'm ashamed to say, Houston's Baseball team and have become laughably bad in the past few years.

[–]Mmarketting 3 points4 points ago

Haha cool, now I see it. I was looking for why the scramble was incredible all that time!

[–]DawgClaw 2 points3 points ago

Can't wait to have those guys over in the AL West!

[–]Generotti21 86 points87 points ago

They looked like a little league team

[–]Homelesscrunch 42 points43 points ago

They honestly look worst than that

[–]Valendr0s 26 points27 points ago

worse*

[–]Homelesscrunch 23 points24 points ago

THEY HONESTLY LOOK WORST THAN THAT, VALENDR0S

[–]Valendr0s 11 points12 points ago

WORSE*

[–]Mr_Ected 28 points29 points ago

Is that all you do is correct grammar? You're the worse.

[–]pineconeboy 5 points6 points ago

I remember scenes exactly like this from little league. This gif had me rolling.

[–]johnny45c 255 points256 points ago

2012 Houston Astros might be one of the worst MLB teams in history

[–]Lincolns_Revenge 79 points80 points ago

Hey man, this is a rebuilding decade for us.

[–]soulstealer1984 22 points23 points ago

It took the orioles 14 years of loosing to finally be decent again this year

[–]teeohdeedee123[S] 22 points23 points ago

It's taken the Pirates 20 - if they're lucky. They seem like they really do want to finish under .500 again.

[–]hawtpokkitz 8 points9 points ago

Royals are finally making a comeback. At least we aren't going to have a 100 loss season.

[–]venividiikarma 3 points4 points ago

Living in the midwest is so hard sports-wise because of the Royals and Cheifs.

[–]runasone 2 points3 points ago

Kansas City isn't the entire Midwest.

[–]undersuit 26 points27 points ago

What did they loosen?

[–]OskarMao 16 points17 points ago

They didn't loosen anything. The loosening was done unto them. More specifically, their buttholes.

[–]SergeantElias 16 points17 points ago

Wikipedia tells me there at least 24 teams that had a winning percentage of .300 or lower. Houston is at .327.

[–]brosenfeld 16 points17 points ago

The Cleveland Spiders had .130 for their 1899 season.

[–]senorcool 3 points4 points ago

Spiders?

[–]acatastrophicfuton 22 points23 points ago

1899 season

[–]senorcool 33 points34 points ago

No I know. I'm just picturing the naming of the team:

"What really describes Cleveland?"

"Spiders."

"Spiders...sir?"

"Spiders."

[–]studmuffffffin 9 points10 points ago

Not as bad as the Sioux City Cornhuskers or the Chicago Orphans.

[–]Bieber_hole_69 3 points4 points ago

Also switching to basketball, who describes New York by a type pants?

[–]studmuffffffin 3 points4 points ago

Or Boston as the color of their socks.

[–]AVerbalAffair 8 points9 points ago

I know you have to take their record into account.. But I feel that they're even worse than what that indicates

[–]WonAndDone 14 points15 points ago

And they get to play the Cubs 17 times a year. Talk about an opportunity to pad your record.

[–]AVerbalAffair 6 points7 points ago

Being a Cubs fan, I worry how bad their record may have been had they not been able to play the Astros lol

[–]WonAndDone 3 points4 points ago

Haha nothing you can do but wait till Theo turns the organization around. As a Sox fan I am obliged to say that I hope it never happens.

[–]absparekh 4 points5 points ago

ha, and the worst winning percentage in the AL is .408. AL West is .473. Houston is in for a rough transition

[–]teeohdeedee123[S] 94 points95 points ago

Even worse, their entire system (From Rookie League to AAA) was the worst system in Baseball last year, so it's not like there's much hope for the future - especially with the big, bad AL lurking next season.

[–]OremLK 38 points39 points ago

False and false.

a) The Astros didn't have the worst farm system in baseball last season. [1] [2]

b) For domestic minor league clubs, the Astros had the highest winning percentage of any organization in baseball this season[3]. They had a very good draft class this year[4], several prospects have broken out with nice seasons, and numerous prospects were added via trade.

The Astros now have (almost certainly) a top 10 farm system and (possibly) a top 5 farm system in baseball. It has excellent top-end talent including high end top 50 prospects like Carlos Correa, Jonathan Singleton, and George Springer, and loads of depth behind them due to all the trades which have been made over the past couple years.

[–]ProfessorDazzle 8 points9 points ago

I love people like you who actually use citations.

[–]teeohdeedee123[S] 8 points9 points ago

When I said worst farm system, I was speaking in terms of wins and losses. The Astros organization overall last year had a .398 winning percentage. I wasn't referring to the level of potential in the system, because I can't speak to that.

I did make a broad assumption about there not being much hope for the future, though - I'll happily retract that.

[–]AsDevilsRun 5 points6 points ago

Never use winning percentage for a farm system. That's heavily weighted towards non-prospects, as so many guys on those teams are fillers.

[–]DanElHombre 50 points51 points ago

Massive changes in Houston. They're 8-7 this month.

Their farm system records this year...

Okla. City 78-65
Corpus Christi 44-26
Lancaster 37-33
Lexington 30-39
Tri-City 51-25
Greeneville 36-32
GCL Astros 28-31
DSL Astros 22-47

[–]makeyourself101 22 points23 points ago

YEAH OKC TOP OF THE WORST!

[–]heckleberryfinn 16 points17 points ago

I don't think records of minor league teams matters so much. There are just too many filler players -- guys hanging on way too long, or guys that have no shot of making it to begin with.

That said, the Astros do have some highly regarded prospects. Correa, Singleton, Springer, DeShields and Cosart are all legit, but the dropoff is pretty steep after that.

[–]OremLK 3 points4 points ago

Nick Tropeano, Robbie Grossman, Lance McCullers, Mike Foltynewicz, Domingo Santana, Jonathan Villar--it's a very deep system now, not just one with a few high end prospects.

[–]berychance 2 points3 points ago

They're 8-7 this month.

Sample sizes. Every team in the league has had a stretch of 10-15 games were they went more or less .500.

[–]SaucySemite 3 points4 points ago

The White Sox had the worst farm system in baseball last year. I have become very familiar with that type of thing as a Sox fan.

[–]ascaryguy 5 points6 points ago

I wouldn't even say they are the worst team of this century, they are certainly better than the Tigers and Devil Rays were in the early 2000s

[–]bman_33 5 points6 points ago

Yeah as bad as the Astros are the 03 Tigers are still the best of the worst. or Worst of the Worst. Fuck it they were terrible.

[–]Silversol99 4 points5 points ago

43-119 they were. 3 years later, World Series (loss).

[–]Flying_Burrito 0 points1 point ago

I smell a Moneyball sequel.

[–]Pseudosmile 205 points206 points ago

i am a houstonian, the astros do exist :(

[–]packerbacker1221 75 points76 points ago

At least you have the texans.

[–]Hipashia 50 points51 points ago

That name kills me... The Houston Texas Texans. Ugh.

[–]packerbacker1221 73 points74 points ago

Hey man, beggers can't be choosers.

And at least they aren't The Los Angelos Angels, or in all english, The The Angels Angels.

[–]gmorales87 17 points18 points ago

Of anaheim. And it's not like they aren't a well know name in baseball having won titles before changing their name. Very dumb.

[–]Hipashia 2 points3 points ago

Ahh, its almost too good.

[–]plzinsertgirder 4 points5 points ago

I know that feel. Where I live everybody likes the Philly Phillies.

[–]jupham 132 points133 points ago

Please tell me Yakety Sax was playing in the stadium for this

[–]4pumpWonderChump 124 points125 points ago

[–]Zentleman 15 points16 points ago

Maybe they should play it every time the ball gets hit, just in preparation.

[–]therootsrundeep 21 points22 points ago

any one know the source?

[–]teeohdeedee123[S] 32 points33 points ago

Here

August 6, Nationals Vs. Astros.

[–]rconnelly20 53 points54 points ago

This is how i got a home run in little league

[–]Pointer1VB 42 points43 points ago

I hate to ruin your memories, but you scored on a 4 base error... not a home run.

[–]jspsfx 20 points21 points ago

You liked it.

[–]WookieGoldberg 16 points17 points ago

That just kept getting better.

[–]Dragonslayer180 24 points25 points ago

When was this?

[–]xenothaulus 156 points157 points ago

When wasn't it?

[–]CGLefty15 12 points13 points ago

Happy birthday from the Astros! The worst play in franchise history!

[–]quartzduck 3 points4 points ago

There isn't like ANYONE in the stands!!??

[–]kdun 4 points5 points ago

Is it really that surprising?

[–]renton723 11 points12 points ago

You don't know how much your post hurts me. :(

[–]slowitdown 28 points29 points ago

Wow, did that count as an infield triple?

[–]Heartless_Tortoise 31 points32 points ago

I don't remember the official scoring and it's hard to tell from the choppy .gif, but I think it was an error all the way.

[–]enjoytheshow 11 points12 points ago

He may have gotten an infield single if the scorer was nice but after that it's all errors.

[–]AStumpyAlbatross 19 points20 points ago

Kurt Suzuki singles on a bunt ground ball to first baseman Steve Pearce. Roger Bernadina scores. Kurt Suzuki to 3rd. Throwing error by first baseman Steve Pearce. Throwing error by right fielder Brian Bogusevic.

A single with 2 errors, from Nationals @ Astros on August 6. source

[–]bluepunchbuggy 30 points31 points ago

Don't worry, the Astros will have to compete with the Mariners for rock bottom of the AL West next year.

[–]soulstealer1984 9 points10 points ago

Mariners may be a force next season...they have a lot of young talent mainly in the pitching dept.

[–]Kirkzor 21 points22 points ago

you're crazy

[–]wpnw 6 points7 points ago

Next year is a long shot, but by '14 they ought to be playing good ball. I do expect them to beat up on the Astros pretty resoundingly though.

[–]bluepunchbuggy 3 points4 points ago

which we then trade away

[–]bowlnoodlez 3 points4 points ago

I know, right? Hahahahaha.... :'(

[–]teeohdeedee123[S] 26 points27 points ago

As a Cubs fan, I'm going to miss the Astros. I hope they kept the NL Central's basement clean the past couple seasons.

[–]reddier5 5 points6 points ago

Cubs fan talking shit? Astros made the WS in the last decade. When was the last time the cubs were relevant?

[–]teeohdeedee123[S] 17 points18 points ago

I wasn't talking shit. The Astros have been in the basement the past couple seasons, but now they're leaving the NL, so the Cubs will be there instead. What did i say that sounded like shit talking?

No need to get all mad.

And the Cubs made the playoffs in 2007 and 2008, which is a lot more recent than 2005.

[–]reddier5 4 points5 points ago

I have no dog in the fight and no problem with what you said. I just thought it was ironic that the cubs can make fun of a team. The astros won something of note in 2005 and that was the NL pennant.

[–]teeohdeedee123[S] 5 points6 points ago

I am not the Cubs.

won something of note

The only thing of note is the Commissioner's Trophy.

[–]nymnyr 7 points8 points ago

I like the 3rd guy charging the bunt who flails just enough to screw up the guy throwing to 1st.

[–]earnest_turtle 10 points11 points ago

DISATROS!!!! $5 tickets most nights, with specials that include beer, hotdogs, and bobble heads, most AAA teams can't even beat that...

[–]Trivalodyssey 4 points5 points ago

that was catastrophic.

[–]lowkey69ac 4 points5 points ago

Is there a video of this??

[–]TheKreeperStach 7 points8 points ago

We're not even pros anymore. We're a fucking farm team that sells ALL our fucking talent. It's a fucking shame and we shouldn't even be a team.

[–]ittakesacrane 3 points4 points ago

anybody else going to watch tonight just in case they get that not-elusive-at-all 100th loss tonight?

[–]gimli666 3 points4 points ago

BLEEEEERN!

[–]bwill05 3 points4 points ago

As a lifelong Astros fan, the current state of this team is heartbreaking. The ravaged remains of a once great team due to horribly misguided ownership and a gutting of any and all valuable assets.

Growing up in the 90s they were a perennial playoff team with loads of talent, and their success culminated in 2005 with an NL Pennant...that seems like such a long time ago now.

[–]mohaukachi 4 points5 points ago

Jesus, how many errors was that?

[–]SackFulloApplez 1 point2 points ago

They look like a bunch of retards trying to rub their cocks on the ball.

[–]blankblank 2 points3 points ago

needs some yakety sax

[–]BobLoblawl 3 points4 points ago

That was uncomfortable to watch

[–]3rdCoast_713 2 points3 points ago

They'll come around, the Texans did.

[–]I_HATE_YOU_SO_MUCH 2 points3 points ago

That was a pretty impressive game of hot potato

[–]dangerzonepatrol101 2 points3 points ago

good thing the Texans season started

[–]wallieburger 2 points3 points ago

lmao it's like little league all over again!

[–]Tac50Company 2 points3 points ago

yakety sax must be played to this.

[–]mnemoniker 2 points3 points ago

In other news MLB's 1,000,000th error is now projected to occur next weekend!

[–]XpressAg09 2 points3 points ago

As an Astros fan, this is both par for the course, and incredibly depressing.

New uniforms next year are the only thing getting me through October.

[–]andersonb47 2 points3 points ago

Anyone have a smoother version of this gif?

[–]wtighe02 0 points1 point ago

I thought the catcher was going to throw it away at the end too.

[–]jorsh175 -1 points0 points ago

Upvoted for partial Steely Dan lyric title.

[–]markusgarvey 0 points1 point ago

it's the big leagues, baby!...

[–]High_Born_Manitee 0 points1 point ago

WTF was that 1st baseman thinking?!??!!?

[–]finsterdexter 1 point2 points ago

Oh man, so many memories of little league just came flooding back. Wow! So much nostalgia, now.

[–]Kroz_McD -1 points0 points ago

Obviously not enough ball handling going on in the showers.

[–]ruledcards 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of that one scene from Angels In The Outfield where the angel make the other team commit tons of errors. Unfortunately, I can't find the scene right now. Maybe someone else with better youtubing powers can?

[–]Choppa790 -1 points0 points ago

Wow...I'm so embarrassed of being Texan right now.

[–]supbanana -1 points0 points ago

My only experience with baseball was being forced to play in grade school and I'm still pretty sure I could do better than this.

[–]jediassassin37 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of when Al messes with the ball in Angels in the Outfield.

[–]facemelt 0 points1 point ago

Great post title..

[–]diyeiogt 0 points1 point ago

Looks like D league softball, which I play. Seriously, I can't get over telling people, stop throwing the damn ball around! Better they score one run or move up a base, than do stupid shit like that.

[–]The_Hindu_Hammer 1 point2 points ago

It's a good thing this is in 1 fps or I might actually be able to tell what's happening!

[–]gattofila 0 points1 point ago

I don't understand what just happened. :/

[–]Soylent_Gringo 0 points1 point ago

That changed everybody's error stats eh what?

[–]SuperJordan 0 points1 point ago

Jag-offs.

[–]Gr8WhiteGrammarNazi 0 points1 point ago

What the fuck was the first baseman doing?

[–]sehajodido 1 point2 points ago

kind of like watching your cat chase a laser around.

[–]Hotdogdance 1 point2 points ago

Benny Hill theme immediately started playing in my head.

[–]FuckingTornadoes 0 points1 point ago

This was from a real game?

Damn...

[–]olafthebent 0 points1 point ago

Why do I hear Yakity Sax in my head when I watch that?

[–]VonBrewskie 0 points1 point ago

Has someone set this to "Yakkity Sax" yet?

[–]severing 1 point2 points ago

This is why I hate pugging.

[–]metaphorm 0 points1 point ago

the rare unforced quadruple error.

[–]PapaJ0e4 0 points1 point ago

I am very surprised that this isn't the Cleveland Indians...

[–]PieWithCoolWhip 0 points1 point ago

full video here from MLB.com

[–]Ad_the_Inhaler 1 point2 points ago

astros fan here. strong urge to punch.

[–]jawillde 0 points1 point ago

When you're professional and do everything at a higher level than everyone else, that includes screw-ups. MLB has the craziest bad plays I have ever seen and I played for 9 years as a kid through high school.

[–]Hygienicnerd 0 points1 point ago

That's just a soup sandwich...chicken noodle on rye to be exact.

[–]mermaidrampage 0 points1 point ago

And that is why they are referred to as the Lastros

[–]thirdgenrx7 0 points1 point ago

[–]Accipehoc 0 points1 point ago

[–]Eric_Wright 1 point2 points ago

That is like watching Gaving playing MLB with Geoff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnW1m_zhllY Video for those who don't get it.

[–]MythOfLight 0 points1 point ago

Aww, it's kind of cute lol.

[–]DeerOnTheRocks -1 points0 points ago

housontian here. fuck the 'stros. go texans and dynamo!

[–]RidleyScotch 0 points1 point ago

Clearly these men don't use steroids.

[–]FatherThyme 0 points1 point ago

as a former baseball player this makes me annoyed/frustrated

[–]Hemingsworth 1 point2 points ago

Oh ball, you so silly.

[–]jdmCrush 0 points1 point ago

Thank GOD that's not my team...

[–]DaveFishBulb 0 points1 point ago

No idea what's going on here.

[–]zenith2nadir 0 points1 point ago

And this is how you play the game

[–]mongoOnlyPawn 0 points1 point ago

Who's on first anyway?

[–]onlythis 1 point2 points ago

Don't they have practices to avoid things like this happening?

[–]Rummy_Tummy 1 point2 points ago

i would wring my neck if i were coach for a team worse than the cubs

[–]bigman250 0 points1 point ago

This is how the starters on my team played last year. I still didn't get a chance to play.

[–]itsDANdeeMAN 0 points1 point ago

since when did the Astros become pros? even though they did take 3 of 4 from my Phillies.... shit

[–]ucstruct 0 points1 point ago

I love it, it looks like the third guy is trying to dive and block it. I was trying to find this the other day after Sportcenter but couldn't remember the team.

[–]robotusson 0 points1 point ago

Reminded me of this in real life.

[–]Kyzer4689 0 points1 point ago

[–]austin525 0 points1 point ago

it's like a god damn Benny Hill routine

[–]cometparty -1 points0 points ago

Oof... that's my team. But we have been playing a lot better lately.

[–]AaaaaaaaronH 0 points1 point ago

This is run-of-the-mill stuff for the Disastros.

[–]uglybabyeater 0 points1 point ago

No, that's just how the Astros have been playing the game for the past 5 years.

[–]sam302psu 0 points1 point ago

Can't believe how many times the Pirates have lost to these guys.

[–]1thenumber 0 points1 point ago

I believe that's called "a comedy of errors."

[–]jcpearce 0 points1 point ago

[–]ScootyToot 0 points1 point ago

The best part is yet to come.....wait until they go to the American league

[–]Mace55555 0 points1 point ago

Still better than the jets.
