Not entirely sure where Dawkins got this, but it reads EXACTLY like a Mormon mission letter. I was in the church for 10 years and even served a mission to St. Petersburg Russia. My "call" came in letter form and had the same format, cadence, font, etc. Solid lift. The atheist in me definitely approves.

[–]scratchwin 4 points5 points ago

Anychance you can post a copy of a mormon mission letter?

[–]LotusBunny[S] 1 point2 points ago

That's awesome. I really want to see a letter like that actually.

[–]safi_Ibn_sayyad 14 points15 points ago

That made me wonder, reincarnation is kind of true : when you die and are dissolved into basic elements, you fertilize the ground on which plants grow (life form #1) then an animal eats them and assimilates them in its body (life form #3), the animal will be eaten by other animals and so on and so forth, until the greatest predator on its turn dies and feeds plants and other animals with his dissolving body.

EDIT: grammar

[–]Dastrados 7 points8 points ago

thats the thrill of not knowing what happens after death, rather than pretending to know.

[–]safi_Ibn_sayyad 5 points6 points ago

I was just pointing out the irony. When you die you stop giving a shit anyway :)

[–]Vimsefreet 20 points21 points ago

Not true. When you die, your muscles relax, also your sphinkter. So you actually give one last shit after death.

[–]Abe_Odd 2 points3 points ago

Now consider this, one of your ancestor's particles has eventually ended up in an animal used as food stock. It is very probable that you have eaten a plant or animal that contained that particle.

It is possible that every meal you eat has at least one particle that was at one point in time apart of a human being. You cannibal.

[–]HyperGiant 1 point2 points ago

Yeah but particles do have half lifes so they really are deteriorated bit by bit. With your logic you can just skip ancestry and say that we've all eaten some of Jesus' protons and neutrons.

[–]fallens 1 point2 points ago

Well material wise, yes of course, we live on a finite planet. But reincarnation states that the soul passes down to different organisms. And souls don't exist. Also, we experience inclines and declines of the existence of life, so I don't know where all of those extra souls come from, and if there are an infinite amount of them then what is the purpose of reincarnation in the first place?

[–]michelangeloevil 4 points5 points ago

FAKE actually, this document was signed by a random GALAXY

[–]infectant 4 points5 points ago

I never applied for nor agreed to this whole "existence" thing, yet it turns out it's mandatory. Who the fuck does this "The Universe" think they are?

[–]JaneRenee 3 points4 points ago

Why wouldn't you just say who originally tweeted it? Is it important that Dawkins tweeted it?

[–]gr33nm4n 4 points5 points ago

I agree with a fellow below. I can see Richard Dawkins responding to this: "A bit presumptuous that the Universe would assign us as Solar System 1, isn't it?"

[–]Corrinth 1 point2 points ago

Very good point.

[–]MrWx 3 points4 points ago

I get a kick out of the RPG format, especially at the idea of "improving the conditions for other newcomers. Played too many games to know what actually happens.

[–]tddanceWR77 2 points3 points ago

Sits in maternity ward with gun Spawn camping!

[–]spolio 3 points4 points ago

this should be on the back of birth and marriage certificates.

[–]SietchTabr 2 points3 points ago

So basically this letter says my consciousness exists before and after my body and that the universe looks forward to seeing my consciousness in another form after my body dies?

[–]Corrinth 0 points1 point ago

That's how I interpreted it, and that's also my only major complaint.

[–]LotusBunny[S] 1 point2 points ago

I didn't interpret it that way. You can very much interpret this to be a "letter" you receive at the point of creation, not before.

Additionally, when it says "seeing you in another form," I think it means seeing "the matter of which you are composed," as opposed to a consciousness.

I suppose if you really wanted to interpret it in the most religious tone possible you could view it the way you described, but I doubt that was the intention of the letter's creator give the obvious scientific and rationalistic themes in the rest of it.

[–]7thoughts 2 points3 points ago

Absolutely brilliant. Came here just to say that.

[–]narcberry 0 points1 point ago

OMG smell this used toilet paper Richard Dawkins used.

[–]backyardlion 0 points1 point ago

This "letter" suggests the belief in the existence of a soul. Interesting.

[–]Scisyhp 2 points3 points ago

....No it doesn't.

[–]LotusBunny[S] 1 point2 points ago

I disagree.

[–]SnakeMan448 2 points3 points ago

I guess it's legit. That signature looks impossible to mimic.

[–]DuggleAss 2 points3 points ago

In the event anyone else was as interested in finding a larger cleaner version like I was.

[–]stanbeard 1 point2 points ago

I've got to say whoever is in control of Dawkins's Twitter account doesn't really conduct themselves in the way I think the man himself would.

It can't really be him, can it? https://twitter.com/RichardDawkins

[–]Corrinth 0 points1 point ago

The frequency of the tweets makes me think it might not be.

But it probably is him.

[–]rockoman100 0 points1 point ago

http://richarddawkins.net/

Says so on his website. And yes he posts a lot of links, but when he actually starts tweeting in his own voice- yep its definitely him

[–]LotusBunny[S] 0 points1 point ago

It seems like he retweets a lot more than he tweets in his own voice.

[–]numberonelotrfan 1 point2 points ago

Mother... Fucking... SCIENCE!!

[–]scratchwin 2 points3 points ago

Lame lifeform #sSi2349Mc1111JH got all those tools, a love of peace and oh did I mention they also got pyrokinesis? Humans are totally nerfed.

[–]for2fly 1 point2 points ago

Oh, damn, now the universe is fucking spamming, Where will it end?

[–]ProdigalWhail 0 points1 point ago

Anybody else catch the "PZ" in the species identification? Made me smile :)

[–]WirelessPribbling 0 points1 point ago

Why?

[–]Pround_Republican 0 points1 point ago

The devil called, he wants his massager back.

[–]TurtleCave 0 points1 point ago

How long before r/atheismplus starts calling it out as being ableist for "bipedalism"?

[–]woodchuck_pie 1 point2 points ago

I need to email this to my sister, as a legit document. Anyone know where I can get it?

[–]_Missing_Link 0 points1 point ago

"You may want to start by cultivating social relationships and improving conditions for other newcomers."

No, here, I'll fix it for you:

"You may want to start by watching your back and kicking ass at every opportunity. This is survival of the fittest and you better start proving that is you."

[–]MrHanekoma 1 point2 points ago

That just inspired me to go back to work.

[–]Goat_Porker 1 point2 points ago

My first thought when reading was that there aren't enough spaces in the lifeform #. At only 12 spaces and 36 characters per space (5 quintillion possibilities), by many estimates you can't number all of the insects on Earth.

[–]LotusBunny[S] 0 points1 point ago

Haha, very true. Although, I must say that is a rather odd first thought, no?

[–]scibuff 1 point2 points ago

Saw this on Facebook in March - proof

[–]jesuslovesmeee -3 points-2 points ago

This is great. It makes me feel that religion and science are pretty much the same thing. In truly understanding science, one understands God.

[–]mash3735 -3 points-2 points ago

totally read that with like a surfer sort of "accent"

[–]gunfupanda -3 points-2 points ago

"I fucking love science" posted it on Facebook this morning.

[–]guyinateepee -5 points-4 points ago

Apparently the no fapping in September memo didn't make it to the atheism crowd, or were fapping circles excempt?

[–]wazzym -3 points-2 points ago

Going to have this as my profile picture on fb!

[–]Delusid -2 points-1 points ago

Cool story bro.
