Oh God. That fedora...

[–]Sigdur 47 points48 points ago

You just know he fucks on the first date.

[–]yotee 9 points10 points ago

IAMA former-fedora-wearer-for-about-two-weeks...it is a past I cannot erase. Unless I'm an observer...

[–]VaguelyCondescending 2 points3 points ago

Good thing they didn't ignore the one fedora per crew rule, or this would've been much worse.

[–]CynicalNsomniac 2 points3 points ago

The thing is, he has it down that you need to wear a suit if you want to wear a fedora, which is good, but it's just so painfully obvious that the ONLY reason he's wearing the suit is for the fedora and it just physically hurts to look at.

[–]MestR 2 points3 points ago

It wouldn't be complete without it.

[–]duke_dreaver 4 points5 points ago

the suit is good. fedora is a bit of a disappointment. requires more brim.

[–]nikocujo 3 points4 points ago

Ehhh, it takes a special type to pull off a three-piece. And that type doesn't include scrawny people with chin-strap beards. And judging from the point in which the jacket crosses, it's a three button. Generally considered a bit dated. I did mock trial in college, and my biggest pet peeve was seeing people wearing ill-fitting suits that they had no business wearing in the first place: i.e. fedoras and clashing ties/pocket squares.

EDIT: Three button

[–]duke_dreaver 2 points3 points ago

fit is definitely the most important thing

[–]mattattaxx 2 points3 points ago

Anyone can pull off a 3-piece, but not an off-the-rack 3-piece.

[–]nikocujo 0 points1 point ago

The general rule of thumb with suiting is to never buy off the rack if you can afford it.

The alternative is to find a good, fashion-forward tailor who can make an off the rack suit look custom made. Worth every penny.

[–]mattattaxx 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I agree. Off the rack is rarely going to fit all the different parts of a body.

[–]VaguelyCondescending 1 point2 points ago

You know, I was trying to grow a nice, classy beard that has been stuck at just past a chin strap for a little while, and you and this photo have convinced me...maybe facial hair just isn't right for everybody...maybe it's just not my time...

[–]ForeverAProletariat 0 points1 point ago

Don Draper was on the thin side.

[–]crazyex 5 points6 points ago

That's the first thing I looked for. Props to him for looking dapper in his suit instead of wearing the fedora with any old outfit, though.

[–]PastaNinja 15 points16 points ago

He looks anything but dapper. He looks like's he's spectacularly failing at imitating the style of men with character. Just because you can throw on a fedora with a suit doesn't mean it'll look good on you.

[–]1637 0 points1 point ago

hahaa so true

[–]mattattaxx 3 points4 points ago

I guess the suit looks good, but the fedora still doesn't.

[–]estrtshffl 16 points17 points ago

I have the Doctor Who/Back to the Future shirt of the guy in the front row.

I need to reevaluate my life choices.

[–]JoeChieftw 3 points4 points ago

I haven't watched Dr. Who but I am afraid to because it has some creepy fans too.

[–]estrtshffl 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, I think somebody said somewhere else in here that every fanbase is going to have those guys who go too far. I mean, look at the Oakland Raiders.

It's a pretty good show, albeit sometimes campy. You don't have to call yourself a Whovian and get a TARDIS tattoo to be a fan of the show.

[–]nommas 1 point2 points ago

Dr. Who is an amazing series. Moffat is an excellent writer and the stories on the show can be very emotional. I remember I almost cried on one of the final episodes of the 'David Tennant + Billie Piper' series. The music is brilliant. Really good at setting the scene. The special effects are... not movie grade, but better than what you'd usually get in a TV series.

However, the show is compromised by some of the fans. Some people see the show an go around to all their friends saying "LOL BOWTIES ARE KEWL" and other such references.

If you can appreciate a good TV series, Doctor Who is one not to be missed. Just try to avoid the more... interesting, part of the fanbase.

[–]JoeChieftw 0 points1 point ago

I heard it was pretty good. To me it seems like something where the best fans watch it in private or at least don't make fools of themselves like with anime.

[–]nommas 2 points3 points ago

I watch it with my family every Saturday. We watch the episode, talk about it a little bit afterwards and when I'm in school I'll talk to my friends about it for a few minutes. That's all.

I used to be absolutely mad about it. Got the Dr Who magazine and went to a convention with my dad. To be fair though, I was about 9. If I did that shit nowadays, I'd be part of the weird fandom.

Feel free to watch it, maybe try to watch it with some friends. Watching it alone is okay but the show is best enjoyed with others.

[–]bacon_cake 1 point2 points ago

Oh god I agree.

To see the difference though first check out /r/doctorwho - full of those exact people.

Then check out /r/gallifrey - it's full of the kind of fans that you can hold an adult conversation with.

[–]Inorashi 0 points1 point ago

Well better be afraid to turn on your tv at all then.

[–]timtaylor999 0 points1 point ago

You are not alone. I too must go burn my shirt and question my existence...

[–]Noisebot 15 points16 points ago

I make a point to never, ever associate myself with a sub-culture for this reason. There can be no good from letting an interest define you.

[–]yotee 52 points53 points ago

This is what happens when we have a generation that does not live in fear of war.

[–]Sigdur 31 points32 points ago

One of my old roommates acted like the individuals pictured.

I remember when Battlefield 3 came out last year and he bought it for his console. I walked into the room after class to see him plastered to his screen, a controller in one hand and a jumbo bag of Doritos in the other. I sat beside him as he breezed through the campaign. After ten or so minutes I chimed up a conversation.

"These games aren't very realistic, are they?"

He paused the game and turned to me, glaring directly into my eyes. "You have no fucking idea what you're talking about," he impatiently murmured under his breath. "These games are based off of real life situations and tactics. They're the same methods used by the U.S. military today." He then resumed his zombie-trance.

tl;dr I'm a casual fag.

[–]yotee 15 points16 points ago

Sometimes I like telling gamers I play Diner Dash just to see the flexibility of their eye muscles.

[–]mavriksfan11 7 points8 points ago

I knew a kid in high school who wanted so badly to be in the Air Force, but he had bad eyesight, was fat, and had zero athletic ability or strength or agility. He knew absolutely everything one could know about the military though, so he was basically the kind of people that do shit like this.

[–]Sigdur 4 points5 points ago

Twenty bucks says his XBOX Live username goes along the lines of XxRaInbOwDasHxX.

[–]mavriksfan11 6 points7 points ago

I think it's got Oorah somewhere in there.

[–]Invinciblex 4 points5 points ago

I don't quite follow this comment. Mind expanding?

[–]yotee 5 points6 points ago

Life is so easy, all necessities are taken care of, there is no challenge for survival or fear of everything being destroyed. Lives can be lived in 100% luxury mode. This sort of thing could only be born from such conditions.

[–]Invinciblex 4 points5 points ago

You're basically saying people didn't form silly clubs or do stupid things in other generations..first off I'd like to point out we just ended a decade long war. Also I'd like you to realize how absurd it is to say people never did stupid things just because the threat of war loomed. So dumb.

[–]Sommerfaq 1 point2 points ago

Wellllll if you live in America or most Western Countries, the wars that are fought right now probably don't even affect your lives at all. While there is threat of terrorist attacks, you're probably never going to see a full scale invasion of the U.S. or a nuke going off in any major city. The point is, we are almost always on the offensive, therefore we need not to worry about ourselves.

[–]Invinciblex 0 points1 point ago

Was there a fullscale invasion of the US I'm unaware of after the revolutionary war?

[–]Sommerfaq 0 points1 point ago

Yea, in 1812, basically 200 years ago.

[–]FlippityFlopppity 1 point2 points ago

we just ended a decade long war

...which one?

[–]Giygas 5 points6 points ago

Girl in the blue hat looks damn good. Too bad she is probably a lesbian.

[–]officialchocolateman 5 points6 points ago

They should just have a huge orgy/gangbang.

[–]MestR 4 points5 points ago

With 16 males and 2.5 females? Talk about sausage fest!

[–]I_am_the_Werewolf 2 points3 points ago

I've fapped to larger ratios before.

[–]Marcob10 3 points4 points ago

Now I feel bad for judging them, thanks :(

[–]comma_error[S] 7 points8 points ago

So you're saying, you cringed then?

[–]Marcob10 3 points4 points ago

Not as much as seeing them in action but yes, I cringed.

[–]IAmAsianAMA 6 points7 points ago

White people are silly.

[–]I_STAB_HIPSTER_FILTH 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit, I recognise one- oh wait she lives in russia. What is it with tiny lesbian brunettes, and rainbow dash?

[–]MikeDitz 1 point2 points ago

What is the psychology behind a Brony? What's appealing about my little ponies? I'm not sure I understand.

[–]Urbano35 1 point2 points ago

Basically, that dude's can like chick things and that the show's creator occasionally includes sophisticated themes for older audiences.

[–]MikeDitz 0 points1 point ago

Okay thanks, it clears it up a little bit.

[–]Vulkans 0 points1 point ago

Front/left guy kind of looks like a thin Gabe Newell.
