Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

So poor he has to sit on the floor.

[–]frumpi[S] 412 points413 points ago

if you make more than $500 million you get to share a chair.

[–]deimos1090 205 points206 points ago

Under 2 Billion gets you a lean against a ladder.

[–]frumpi[S] 134 points135 points ago

being the wealthiest gets you a couch to share with your rich friend.

[–]jhmartin 35 points36 points ago

Not according to UNESCO, that shit got protected as cultural heritage this year.

[–]HeyThatsMyPeabody 32 points33 points ago

Are you saying spouses can't be friends?

EDIT: I was just being a dick. I clearly got what you were trying to say

[–]bw1870 13 points14 points ago

Ideally they are, but you likely won't hear someone introduce their spouse as "my friend, Melinda"

[–]awkward___silence 8 points9 points ago

I think till try that with my wif errr friend.

[–]GREAT_WALL_OF_DICK 13 points14 points ago

I think that'll produce your username.

[–]Hollowchains 4 points5 points ago

Unless your spouse is into that, in which case your username will be produced.

[–]Shagomir 4 points5 points ago

Apparently ties require 2 billion dollar portfolios.

[–]kill_yourselves 76 points77 points ago

Bill and Melinda could buy him...

488 times.

They could afford a school of Jon Bon Jovis. It would be a musical education school. The Jons would be the students, hopefully they'd learn some stuff, but I'm not optimistic.

[–]thestu25 10 points11 points ago

He also could afford everyone else in the room.

[–]whatupnig 17 points18 points ago

Yeah must be terrible only having over $100 million...

[–]dylhugg 4 points5 points ago

And doesn't get to wear a suit

[–]frumpi[S] 335 points336 points ago

from left to right... Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, Peter Peterson, Leon Black, Jon Bon Jovi, Marc Benioff, David Rubenstein, Steve Case, Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen, Marc Andreessen.

[–]cocobango 359 points360 points ago

Oprah is not a philanthropist. She just does it for publicity. My favorite story is her school opening in South Africa. 75 kids were chosen to go to a college she built. They slept in $1500 bedsheets. Just next to the slum. How philanthropic. Spending 40 million dollars to educated 72 girls, what a waste of money.

[–]ajw827 179 points180 points ago

If you read the article you'll see that she has given more than $400 million to educational causes alone. To judge her by one bad call is not very fair.

[–]Ozzymandias 182 points183 points ago

Yeah, to hell with her. She's just given away tons of money on her own accord, but not to my exact specifications.

[–]Memphomania 128 points129 points ago

Bill Gates' product is Microsoft. Oprah's product is herself. Both of them got rich promoting, improving and refining their respective products. It's easy to separate the Gates Foundation from Microsoft, but it's way harder to separate Oprah's philanthropy from her business because her business is Oprah.

[–]whomad1215 73 points74 points ago

Bill Gates is donating 95% of his personal wealth to help make the world a better place though.

[–]Reporter_On_Fox_News 7 points8 points ago

When he dies. Not to imply he hasn't given a tremendous amount or should have given more, but there is a very distinct difference between donating all your wealth while you can still use it and giving it all away when it's no longer of any use to you.

[–]doucheyhipster 43 points44 points ago

Should he donate $10 billion now? Or should he invest that $10 billion so that he can donate $30 billion in 10 years?

[–]Gmetal 5 points6 points ago

Well guess what- their foundation has donated over 28 Billion.

[–]Areo_Hotah 4 points5 points ago

isnt most his networth in microsoft stock

[–]Sluisifer 20 points21 points ago

All I know about Oprah is that she gave Dr. Phil and, more importantly, Dr. Oz their start. Fucking bullshit pseudoscience alternative medicine makes me rage. Fuck them all for playing on people's hopes and fears.

[–]flfolks 61 points62 points ago

Winfrey's show raises money through promotion of her public charity and she personally donates more of her own money to charity than any other performer in America.[166] In 2005 she became the first black person listed by Business Week as one of America's 50 most generous philanthropists, having given an estimated $303 million as of 2007.[166] Winfrey was the 32nd most philanthropic. By 2012 she had given away about $400 million to educational causes.[167]She has also been repeatedly ranked as the most philanthropic celebrity.[168]

[–]black27696 231 points232 points ago

Oprah is actually a really shitty person, and she's extremely self-involved.

[–]DoorMarkedPirate 187 points188 points ago

I never would have guessed that based on the magazine, production company, and TV channel she has named after herself. But seriously, she's probably the biggest egomaniac in entertainment right now, and that includes the sports stars (sorry Ochocinco).

[–]black27696 78 points79 points ago

LET'S HELP THESE POOR [hey we're on the air right? yes? ok great] LET'S HELP THESE POOR PEOPLE!!!!

[–]Ace1999 84 points85 points ago

LETS GIVE THEM ALL BEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!

[–]jhc1415 71 points72 points ago

[–]Frankocean2 19 points20 points ago

The little dance she makes it's what takes this GIF to legend status.

[–]NewClearWinter 22 points23 points ago

I don't know. Donald Trump literally has named dozens of buildings and parks and many other things after himself...

[–]iamnotbehindyou 35 points36 points ago

I don't think Donald Trump is what you would call a famous philantropist

[–]ominoustoad 8 points9 points ago

I can't help but smile when I see the channel OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). Classic Oprah.

[–]mamaBiskothu 3 points4 points ago

I once got bored in the waiting room, took her mag and counted the number of times her photo appeared. The average over three issues was some 40.

[–]pandalin 48 points49 points ago

[citation needed]

[–]wife_of_bmacnz 21 points22 points ago

This is just my personal experience. I saw her pull up in a limo behind WB studios in Burbank, stick her feet out of the car and SNAP AND POINT for someone to come run around and put her shoes on her dangling feet. I didn't care or not care for her before that, but I caught a glimpse of what I think the REAL her was and I didn't like it.

[–]DeltaIndiaCharlieKil 23 points24 points ago

When I was 11, my friends and I were walking home and saw a limo. We swarmed and tried to get a ride around the block. All of a sudden we hear "Hello girls" and there's Oprah! She smiles, asks how we are, gets in her limo and drives off. Perfectly lovely. Point being, 5 seconds is not enough time to judge anyone. She's still done more for other people (and herself) than I have.

[–]wife_of_bmacnz 3 points4 points ago

I (politely) disagree, 5 seconds can give you a lot about a person; especially when they think no one is watching. Also, she has means to do more - I am not saying that she HASN'T; but I do believe that in her situation she should.

Maybe you should strive to help others more... and then reassess what we are capable of.

[–]DeltaIndiaCharlieKil 3 points4 points ago

Pre-internet no one else was speaking to stay at home parents (usually women) and asking them to participate in philanthropy. I'm not talking giving to their local church/temple/whatever or fire dept. I'm talking large scale, nationwide philanthropy. Her Angel Network helped bring up the conversation of giving to a wider audience.

Beyond that, she also has made discussing molestation more acceptable, was the only asking housewives to not only read regularly but to have in depth conversations about what they were reading, and made women be self advocates. I could do a whole lot and never touch the amount that Oprah has done.

Look, snapping at someone and making them put your shoes on your feet is a total dick move, and I'm sure she is a prima donna. I just think people negate her good works because she has an annoying personality.

sorry, I used to drink to the Oprah Show in college (it came on during prime drinking time and I didn't have cable), and while we pretty much made fun of her and her audience, after a while I started to respect her. I guess I'm a little defensive of the Ops.

[–]InvalidWhistle 8 points9 points ago

*About five years ago, she contacted Georgetown’s L’Enfant Gallery, known for high-end antiques, because she owned works by portraitist John Kirthian Court and wanted to see more. Gallery owner Peter Colasante bought three paintings ($60,000-$80,000 each) and had them shipped from Portugal to his shop for Oprah’s consideration. He received strict instructions for her short visit, along with a partial schedule: “2:17 p.m.: Oprah’s limousine arrives at L’Enfant Gallery, 2:20 p.m.: Oprah walks into gallery….”

On the appointed day and time, two limos pulled up and Oprah went into Deborah Gore Dean’s shop across Wisconsin Avenue. After waiting 30 minutes, Colasante walked over and found his famous client berating Dean. He told Oprah and her entourage (secretary, pilot, hairdresser, makeup man, guards) that he had other appointments scheduled and she needed to honor her timetable.

“Oprah does not walk,” she told him, referring to herself in the third person. “Who is this guy?” Then she started screaming at her staff, but finally agreed to cross the street and come through his front door.

“I just don’t feel it,” she told him. “The vibrations aren’t right.”

“You’ll feel them once you see the paintings we’ve assembled for you,” he said, pointing up the stairs where Court’s art was hanging.

“Oprah does not do stairs,” she said.

Things went rapidly downhill from there: Colasante’s partner hissed that maybe Oprah could use the exercise (unclear who heard), and she stormed out in a huff without buying anything.*

[–]bogoblin 11 points12 points ago

If I was that rich I'd get people to put my shoes on.

[–]potatoed_anus 1 point2 points ago

I would still fuck the shit out of those big blacks tits and what I hope are big droopy purple pussy lips.

[–]HurricaneErickson 1 point2 points ago

This is why I love reddit. Up until this moment I had never heard anyone else agree with me on that point. Damn I can't stand her fake bullshit. I'm glad other people see through it too.

[–]chuckles2013 28 points29 points ago

This. Exactly. Gates and Buffett are philanthropists. They have committed to giving away their fortunes. Oprah gives away cars on her show (as a promotion for GM).

Joke: What's the difference between a Democrat and a Philanthropist? The Democrat wants to give your money to the poor.

What's the difference between a Republican and a Philanthropist? The Republican wants to give your money to Bill Gates and Warren Buffett through tax breaks for the rich, so they can give it to the poor.

[–]Hawkell 47 points48 points ago

I have heard Buffett is a pretty decent guy too. My sister had to converse with him a few times (over one of his books). She was just an intern at the time and had no idea who he was, kept mispronouncing his name the first conversation. Future conversations he kept trolling her by pronouncing his name the way she had.

[–]Sy_ThePhotoGuy 2 points3 points ago

How did she pronounce it? Like an all-you-can-eat buffet?

[–]realdeal6649 15 points16 points ago

Gates is worth 61 Billion and can't even look at the right camera.

[–]vyllex 24 points25 points ago

When you're worth that much you don't need to.

[–]pebohead 9 points10 points ago

So it would of been better if she spent nothing at all on charity huh?

[–]bogoblin 3 points4 points ago

Would have*

[–]alpha_r 2 points3 points ago

All the schools Oprah built in Africa? Now bankrupt

[–]sackadoodle 2 points3 points ago

I was 12 when that happened, and I remember complaining to my teacher (who LOVED Oprah) that it would have been way more efficient if she had built a bunch of less extravagant schools. Teacher goes "Well I'm sure she just wanted the best for them. Better that than nothing!" Dumb bitch.

[–]pilotpistolpete -5 points-4 points ago

Not too mention this was an all girl school. While I realize that girl, especially, are often ignored in these countries, there's something unfair when the village girls live the live of luxury in expensive bed sheets while the boys are left uneducated and living in the streets

[–]rogersmith25 7 points8 points ago

I would just like to add that the correlation between having an educated female population and economic prosperity is not necessarily causative.

It is possible that countries experience economic growth because they invest in girls' careers and education; it is also possible that countries can afford to invest more in girls' education and careers because they are more prosperous.

[–]GNG 3 points4 points ago

While that might be true if education in the country is a zero-sum distribution, it's pretty disingenuous to imply that educating 100% of the populous doesn't necessarily produce better results than educating 50% of the populous. Basic literacy alone makes a huge difference.

[–]paymefirst 12 points13 points ago

No george soros hmmmm

[–]11oops 3 points4 points ago

No Koch brothers either. Shocking.

[–]kweer 14 points15 points ago

Good guy Paul Allen: Donates hundreds of millions to scientific causes but is a recluse so no one has a clue about it.

[–]ChunkLeFunk 4 points5 points ago

Recluse? Have you seen his yacht? Pretty hard to be a recluse when your boat has a staff of 17 people. Doesn't he also own an NBA team?

[–]pizzamanhoxie 4 points5 points ago

Portland Trail Blazers and Seattle Seahawks.

[–]WordUP60 3 points4 points ago

Damn, I didn't even recognise Andreessen. He's aged a lot, hasn't he.

[–]Iwantrobots 145 points146 points ago

I've noticed Bill Gates sits in that posture a lot.

[–]Vitalic123 190 points191 points ago

Well, to be fair, if you're Bill Gates, you can pretty much sit however the fuck you want.

[–]CerebrumLavabit 58 points59 points ago

Is it only me who can see this similarity?

[–]cefalord 23 points24 points ago

nope. . . I saw it too. . .

[–]Adria_Penguin 38 points39 points ago

Holy shit, it's true, it's the exact same posture as this picture.

What the actual fuck. What if he's dead and they just go around with a mannequin with his face, snapping pictures of him, to make us think he's alive?

[–]cyrilio 45 points46 points ago

At least he can jump over a stationary chair from a standstill.

[–]O0OOO0O0O0O0O0O0O0O0 26 points27 points ago

TIL I sit like a billionaire

[–]SphericalOrbit 27 points28 points ago

He's not even looking at the camera

[–]HarithBK 103 points104 points ago

he is just sitting there thinking about all the money he owns

[–]Letherial 70 points71 points ago

And new and creative ways to give it away, apparently.

[–]MipitTheTroll 38 points39 points ago

"Ill build a rocket that will fly a new probe to the next galaxy. As the thrusters detach from the rest of the rocket in high orbit, I will release millions of dollars in bills. They will circulate the world and land everywhere. People will be inclined to find money, and will explore the great outdoors and will be rewarded with money.

On that note, I think I'll buy a outdoor's company..."

[–]Azartic 14 points15 points ago

This makes me want an imgur album or something that shows everything that Bill gates owns.

[–]OddDude55 4 points5 points ago

When you're that rich, you can see your net worth floating above your head like that.

[–]Ilovewhatredditdoes 6 points7 points ago

He does't have to. The camera looks at him.

[–]TheLoneHoot 3 points4 points ago

Or rocking back and forth

[–]QuakerArmyOfOne 17 points18 points ago

I think he keeps his wallet in his right suit pocket so it is hard to sit up straight.

[–]deeperest 4 points5 points ago

His body language tells me he would much rather share a bed with Buffett than his wife.

[–]Pumpkinsweater 124 points125 points ago

Compared to Buffett and the Gates, the rest of them are paupers. You take those three (or really, one, the Gates foundation, which Buffet is a big contributor to) and the rest are just a footnote. Their networth goes up and down more in a year due to fluctionations in the market and their investments than the entire networth of everyone else.

[–]Korbit 57 points58 points ago

Ignoring the Gates and Buffett the rest of the people in the picture combined are worth ~16 Billion.

[–]Flyenphysh 52 points53 points ago

Which, coincidentally, is about the difference between Buffett and Gates.

[–]Cueball61 92 points93 points ago

In other words, Gates has the net worth of the rest of them put together.

[–]Suven_01 26 points27 points ago

Math!

[–]OddDude55 25 points26 points ago

That is unfathomably wealth. Good thing he appears to be such a nice guy!

[–]gloomdoom 27 points28 points ago

I think it proves a good point: Money doesn't make you into a greedy asshole, it just gives you the means to really be who you are deep inside.

Some people barely break poverty levels and still give to those in need while there are some who have billions who are hateful, angry and see the poor as a burden and a bunch of leaches.

Very telling when you get down to it. And a great way to prove that a lot of ultra wealthy people are stingy and miserable while lower middle class people can be perfectly happy.

[–]vulpes_occulta 2 points3 points ago

Then, there's the tobacco industry.

[–]apaq11 68 points69 points ago

I love how Bill Gates is so rich that it's now a full time job for him to give his money away.

[–]DeltaIndiaCharlieKil 22 points23 points ago

Giving away money responsibly is not easy. You can't just throw money at whatever sounds good. Live Aid is an example of good intentions failing (warning, cracked article). See also Oprah's school for girls that went awry. I do think Oprah really wanted to make a difference, but desire and having money are unfortunately a small part of the equation.

You have to do massive due diligence, be an expert in the field you are trying to effect, and hire dedicated and honest people who can do all this. Bill Gates is one of the few who correctly describes philanthropy on the same terms as entrepreneurship. I think people underestimate how much work goes into it.

[–]YNot1989 55 points56 points ago

Bill and Warren are just hoping these poor people don't rob them.

[–]emperorOfTheUniverse 21 points22 points ago

I'd rather see this with contribution amounts instead of net worth. Or some kind of ratio of philanthropy spending/wealth.

[–]VeryAwkward 116 points117 points ago

yeah!! sorry Bon Jovi, only 125 Millions, what a loser.

[–]logically 24 points25 points ago

He saves his money. His motto: "You've got to hold on to what you've got."

[–]VeryAwkward 7 points8 points ago

He is a great human being, I miss when he made good music though.

[–]Fearlessbunny 0 points1 point ago

Dunno about that, I read the "Star man, Right hand of rock and roll". What they did to him left a bad taste in my mouth

[–]GoddessOfGoodness 40 points41 points ago

Because of the spelling I read that in the voice of Skwisgaar

[–]Poopwink 7 points8 points ago

This is correct, natural...this is God's way.

[–]GoddessOfGoodness 11 points12 points ago

could only be better if he called poor old Jon "dildoes" instead of loser.

Edit: Dropped on O from lo(o)ser because apparently I am sporadically illiterate, woo Dethklok rule

[–]Bama011 7 points8 points ago

This post is dildos

[–]philasurfer 3 points4 points ago

I am actually surprised he is not worth more.

[–]Considerable 19 points20 points ago

that dude on the right has a conehead

[–]science87 0 points1 point ago

Came here to say this, His head has some mystical property that intrigues me.

[–]hobomojo 96 points97 points ago

Who is the one worth $125 million, and is she single?

[–]kennybteam 11 points12 points ago

they arent actually all in the same room. Each photo was taken separately.

[–]fabes83 30 points31 points ago

Bill Gates could buy all of them. Or at least make them do anything he wanted for a day.

[–]Letherial 23 points24 points ago

Except Warren, I would imagine.

Though if you want to be real, people with lots of money usually value pride more than more money.

[–]rebelit 21 points22 points ago

I see Bon Jovi is on the floor picking up the change that fell out of Bill gates pocket.

[–]TaurenBurger 40 points41 points ago

Is it bad if i can only recognize Bill Gates and Oprah?

[–]Aitioma 76 points77 points ago

You should at least recognize Warren Buffett and Bon Jovi.

If you only recognized those two then that means you aren't even informed about popular media. What do you spend your time with?

TaurenBurger

Oh...

Imagine these people are all Goblins...

[–]TaurenBurger 20 points21 points ago

I don't watch American media since i'm from Sweden :) And yes maybe because I play WoW...

[–]mystikraven 13 points14 points ago

/moo

[–]Wetmelon 2 points3 points ago

You should watch some talks with Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. Brilliant men. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKrteO73UG0

[–]Azartic 3 points4 points ago

To be honest, I always forget what Bon Jovi looks like. I remember him by name only.

[–]BlueMunky 10 points11 points ago

If they all just gave me a million dollars, only Jon Bon Jovi would really notice.

[–]justler6 8 points9 points ago

Melinda Gates looks like she has way too many fingers! Also, Bill sits in a similar manner to Buffet, hands and all.

[–]dylhugg 8 points9 points ago

Bon jovi makes up for being least wealthy by wearing a badass leather jacket.

[–]Stockton_Bomb 30 points31 points ago

We need more full on rapists in the world.

[–]TheLoneHoot 9 points10 points ago

Too many die from hornet stings.

[–]HiroshimaThereashima 2 points3 points ago

It's "philanthropists" Charlie. How much cheese have you eaten?

[–]Spider_Rapist 3 points4 points ago

Reporting for duty.

[–]did_you_read_it 36 points37 points ago

one of these things is not like the others.

[–]girlyouknowitstrue 62 points63 points ago

[–]CerebrumLavabit 3 points4 points ago

Thank you for making me laugh like a child!

[–]frumpi[S] 40 points41 points ago

Ah, yes. Subtle racism in its finest.

[–]eoliveri 64 points65 points ago

He meant the pauper on the floor. Who's the racist now?

[–]Dortiet 5 points6 points ago

You mean woman.

[–]DANARWHALBACONS 14 points15 points ago

Where's Carlos Slim?

[–]a-umlaut 11 points12 points ago

I was going to ask the same question. According to Forbes list of billionaires he should hang out with those guys!

E: Maybe he's not qualified as philanthropist.

[–]Hyper1on 34 points35 points ago

He's not a philanthropist, he's pretty selfish with his money. He's like the Larry Ellison of Mexico.

[–]coolwubla 3 points4 points ago

Carlos slim is the richest man in the world at 69 Billion net worth.

[–]bumblebeesscareme 9 points10 points ago

Bill Gates is clearly thinking "Suck it bitches!".

[–]TherosAdair 11 points12 points ago

It does look a bit like he is having a chuckle with W. Buffet.

[–]TimHorton121 6 points7 points ago

Where's Bono?

[–]Kit_L 2 points3 points ago

No Koch brothers?

[–]Frog-Eater 3 points4 points ago

And yet they all have trouble pooping sometimes, just like me !

[–]kenn4000 5 points6 points ago

all that money and only two girls showed up to the party? talk about a sausage fest.

oprah doesnt count.

[–]AngriestCosmonaut 5 points6 points ago

Bill Gates looks like a slightly less crippled Steven Hawking.

[–]KosherDill 2 points3 points ago

I never knew Bill Gates was a full on rapist!

[–]firitheryn 2 points3 points ago

Good to know the richest, is richer than the rest of the richers.

[–]santaklausnomi 2 points3 points ago

Yeah you better all be smiling.

[–]redditsaywhat 2 points3 points ago

Poor Bon Jovi, must suck to only have $125 million...

[–]ayline 2 points3 points ago

What makes me happy about Buffet, in particular, is that while he is extremely wealthy and would stand to make even more money by supporting lower taxes on the wealthy, he wants to raise his own taxes because he doesn't think he pays enough.

[–]thebeardsman 2 points3 points ago

You can't blame him, it costs a lot of money for surgery when you get SHOT THROUGH THE HEART!

[–]B3rL3igh 2 points3 points ago

But... Why is Jon even there? Don't care, still /r/ladyboner

[–]Pictoru 5 points6 points ago

since when is Steve Martin worth $2.8 bn and fat?

[–]Colorfag 4 points5 points ago

But Bon Jovi gets the most bitches.

That alone saves him the hooker fees.

[–]CaptainReginald 5 points6 points ago

For a second I was wondering where Steve Jobs was.

Then I remembered...

I also wouldn't consider Jobs a philanthropist.

[–]CaptainReginald 34 points35 points ago

I quick look at the dictionary has led me to agree with you.

I think I was mixing up philanthropist and entrepreneur.

[–]itsaboat 56 points57 points ago

I think I was mixing up philanthropist and asshole

FTFY

[–]Aitioma 15 points16 points ago

I think I was mixing up philanthropist and entrepreneur.

That's a pretty serious mistake...

[–]CaptainReginald 9 points10 points ago

It really is...

[–]I3ombastic 30 points31 points ago

You remembered that Steve jobs was a self involved dickwad who wouldn't know what philanthropy was if it bit him in the left buttcheek?

[–]capecodcarl 6 points7 points ago

He actually went out of his way to cancel any philanthropic programs (like matching donations of employees) that Apple was involved in when he became CEO from what I recall.

[–]Diggyd 7 points8 points ago

Why Is Bon jovi even worth that much?

[–]sydien 72 points73 points ago

Because, unlike most entertainers, he wasn't an idiot with his earnings.

[–]evilpeter 7 points8 points ago

To be more precise, it's because he is sole owner of the band, Bon Jovi, and all crew (and bandmates) are his employees. There was a story about him (them) on 60 minutes a while back.

Also, he is heavily involved in the publishing and promoting of the band's music (in other words, aside from the 'band' money, he also gets a lot of the money that would usually go to a record label)

He pays the band members very well, to be sure (Richie Sambora is no pauper), but Jon retains a far greater portion of profits - almost all the profits - than he would have under a 'traditional' band payout structure.

... and don't forget that he's had a number of very well paying movie gigs.

[–]Maniacal_Artist 33 points34 points ago

He's sold 130 million albums, starred in movies, and owned an arena football team.

[–]GREAT_WALL_OF_DICK 24 points25 points ago

Arena football? Wouldn't that be a net loss for him?

[–]edwartica 3 points4 points ago

Because he's Jon Goddamn Bon Jovi. I'm a strait man but I would let him do whatever he wanted with me.

[–]wtfmanquestionmark 2 points3 points ago

I wonder how much Oprah paid for that cleavage. That shit looks weird.

[–]Jaexyn 1 point2 points ago

Why would Jovi be on there at all? Where's Zuckerberg? Or Mark Cuban? Jovi just seems to have been tossed in there unless that is a pic of contributors to some specific charity or fund or something.

[–]yes_thats_right 5 points6 points ago

Bon Jovi falls into the 'influential' category. This is not just about their own personal giving, but how their work has helped also.

[–]sinisterlefty 2 points3 points ago

you need someone who is attractive in the picture, or who would look at it?

[–]Jaexyn 5 points6 points ago

Beefcake Buffett of course!

[–]fr3shjive 1 point2 points ago

Alright, who are these people? I know Oprah, Buffet, Bon Jovi, Bill, and Melinda and that's it. Who are the rest?

[–]AshsToAshs 2 points3 points ago

Marc Andreessen is the bald guy on the right. He created Netscape.

[–]justinsidebieber 0 points1 point ago

The Gates's $61 B is just like "SUP BRAHS!"

[–]Great_Chairman_Mao -1 points0 points ago

That's my CEO!

[–]nowisallyouhave 3 points4 points ago

You play Arena Football?

[–]touriste -1 points0 points ago

Bad photoshop :(

[–]HW90 0 points1 point ago

and Gates is worth more than all the rest added together

[–]GorillaBuddy -1 points0 points ago

Man they all seem small time in comparison to Bill and Warren.

[–]paulfp007 0 points1 point ago

61 billion ftw.

[–]devosdk 1 point2 points ago

$61 Billion. I can't even.

I always forget just how much money Gates has. I'm glad he uses it for good and not evil.

[–]Bazooe 0 points1 point ago

Bill is richer than all of them combined.

[–]miked1136 -1 points0 points ago

[–]TAC0001 1 point2 points ago

I love how Gates or Buffett can outmoney the entire rest of the room combined.

[–]Kaleb1983 1 point2 points ago

I had no idea Bon Jovi was a wealthy philanthropist. I love his music, but did he get that rich off music alone or did he do something else?

[–]Baginni 0 points1 point ago

bill gates kinda looks like steven hawkins

[–]A_Racial_Observation 0 points1 point ago

So much mahogany....

[–]Kingsize_slim 0 points1 point ago

What is it about philanthropists that makes them want to collect stamps?

[–]arche22 0 points1 point ago

I don't see Trumps wig anywhere....

[–]caroline_ 0 points1 point ago

Man, Bon Jovi. Did not see that one coming...

[–]donteatthecheese 1 point2 points ago

Do you think they have anything to talk about?

[–]ShamAbram 1 point2 points ago

World's most public masturbators.

[–]Remy1985 1 point2 points ago

That room could give the entire population of the world $17.82. Roughly, a case of good micro-brewed beer for the entire planet.

[–]Remy1985 5 points6 points ago

Now, if you were to stack those cases of beer (assuming the case dimensions are 16x16x24) it would span around 2.572 million miles. Which is 11.32 times the distance of the earth to the moon.

[–]DarcyHart 0 points1 point ago

This is great!

[–]jakenichols 0 points1 point ago

They all have the same noses.

[–]AYLWARD0100 -1 points0 points ago

Is that Steve Martin?

[–]HerderOfNerfs 1 point2 points ago

Yay, my boss is in there!

[–]gmikoner 0 points1 point ago

Where's Carlos?

[–]Elementium 0 points1 point ago

One of these days I'm going to try and e-mail bill gates and ask for 50 bucks. Just to see what happens.

[–]gloomdoom 1 point2 points ago

People need to read this story about philanthropy.

You'd likely be shocked at the truth and what the studies have found:
