Learn all sorts of things that make you stand out in a way that makes people go "that's cool but why do you know that?" We're why! This is a place like a how to guide to teach or learn how to do everyday cool things. Like solving a Rubix Cube, pen spinning, or how to roll a quarter through your fingers.

RULES OF THE REDDIT

  1. I have no idea what you would be posting that would be, but you must label NSFW links.

  2. Don't debate if a post is truly "useless." Posts should fall under these guidelines: -It kills time -It is not very commonly known -If seen by others, it would make them go "Wow, I can't do that and you can! How cool!"

  3. If you are unsure if the link is "useful" (ie: how to beatbox, how to pick a lock) go ahead and post it. DO NOT DEBATE IF IT IS USELESS OR NOT! There is a hypothetical situation for everything.

  4. Please label posts from other other reddits. (ie: X-post /r/howto).

  5. If you report a link, send a message to the mods as to why you reported it

  6. Requests are cool, but as of August 30th, 2012 at 10:22 PM they MUST be posted in the official Request threads. Do not make a post just for a request. Keep our page clean of [request] clutter This week's thread (Sep. 16- Sep. 22)

  7. When you post a reply to a request in one of the request threads, label it as such.

If you think your submission got caught in the spam filter, message the mods! We'd be happy to fix it.

Saw this post on lifeprotips a while ago. I remember it not working with US letter.

This would have been very handy for me in the early 2000s when I was shoving like 5 cds into one memorex case.

[–]RobertNevill 0 points1 point ago

Nice! Thank you!

[–]MrGoodbytes 1 point2 points ago

I wish it gave you some sort of preview of what it will look like. Also, it's asking for a single artist but then mentions mix CDs.

I generally do my track listings by hand. But that can be a PITA if you goof or you're doing multiple pressings.

[–]tombo_bombo 7 points8 points ago

Thank you. The other one was very interesting, but a bit absurd.

[–]Ender11 9 points10 points ago

I think one of the steps was to get a degree in geometry.

[–]coolstorybrosky 0 points1 point ago

Seriously, I think I've seen someone make a great looking origami swan in less steps.

[–]Murph785 0 points1 point ago

The practicality of the finished object is proportional to the number of folds required. How practical is an origami swan?

[–]doteyes 12 points13 points ago

Great! Now what are these CD things you speak of and where do I find them?

[–]Alchemilla -2 points-1 points ago

Yeah, can't say I have any need to make a paper case for any CD.. ever. But I guess it's the thought that counts.

This wasnt useless ten years ago. Burning cds and dvds for friends for money. Bank

[–]The_Boudzter 2 points3 points ago

During school days, I had DSL before most of them had. I was the porn/music dealer in school.

[–]mrsmokealotapot 1 point2 points ago

Ahah lucky bastard. I started off with a 2nd phone line dedicated to a 56k line. I remember napster and only being only able to download audio files, of porn files.

[–]kungfoojesus 4 points5 points ago

honestly, better than 99% of what's on LPT.

[–]bbddbdb 7 points8 points ago

What is a CD?

[–]kivvi 2 points3 points ago

less pretty, much more useful. Thank-you kindly

[–]bubbles_loves_omar 2 points3 points ago

This doesn't look like A4 (US) size. Probably not as practical as it looks, since that's the most common paper size for a lot of us.

[–]phobiac 1 point2 points ago

I've done it with letter size paper (8.5" x 11") and it works fine.

[–]weaver2109 0 points1 point ago

It works fine with letter or A4 paper sizes.

[–]Zaefire 1 point2 points ago

This is on the front page for all-time top posts. >.<

[–]carbonnanotube 1 point2 points ago

That needs more .jpeg!

[–]Pedwin 0 points1 point ago

The original one would make an excellent weapon, but this one is much more practical.

[–]RobertNevill 0 points1 point ago

This is great, Thank you! Good Bye Stapler & Tape

[–]commodore-69 1 point2 points ago

I like it. It's simple, way cleaner and you don't need to make a million fucking measurements.

[–]carpeggio 0 points1 point ago

Isn't this pretty much a vinyl case smallified? tehe.

[–]nahumgald 0 points1 point ago

That looks Amazing! Where they all handmade?

[–]shat_my_plants 0 points1 point ago

by the looks of the "1/50", I think they were.

[–]urgencyy 0 points1 point ago

hey thanks! yep, we made 50 of them. painstaking, but we're based around a DIY work ethic and found it very rewarding! sold out of all 50 at our cd release show :)

[–]beatskin -1 points0 points ago

That looks slightly bigger than A4... am I right, or just a total dick?

[–]atomp95 0 points1 point ago

this is much easier but the other one looked quite a bit cooler

[–]shakeinthosepants 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for posting! I love this. This is kind of cheesy, but I have a friend who loves it when I make her mixed CDs. I choose songs that remind me of stuff we did together & then jot down that memory under the name of the song. This case would be perfect to use & decorate. It kind of looks like kraft paper. That's what I plan on using.

[–]Redplushie 1 point2 points ago

I wish I knew about this sooner. When I was in 7th Grade, I had to return a CD to a teacher wrapped in toilet paper.

I thought it was a good idea at the time, now... I just- facepalm.

[–]TheGreatArgos 0 points1 point ago

I've seen the cool kids do this.

[–]GoldAlpinas 0 points1 point ago

Just tried this and it works like a charm. Thanks haha.

[–]govtbovin3 0 points1 point ago

Fucking reposts. Oh well, it's a useful thing.

[–]RancidPonyMilk -1 points0 points ago

whats this "CD" you speak of?

[–]Fartmatic 0 points1 point ago

Has anyone else made a comment implying that CD's have become archaic yet?

[–]HawkeyeMuppet 0 points1 point ago

I would have started with the other side of the CD facing up.

[–]happycrabeatsthefish -1 points0 points ago

[–]ChaGz15 -1 points0 points ago

People still have CDs??

[–]grumbelbart2 1 point2 points ago

I don't get step 3. What prevents the CD from falling out to the left or right?

[–]vergi 0 points1 point ago

I'm guessing you have to have the CD kind of inside the paper so it folds on top of it. Works for me at least

[–]minderaser 0 points1 point ago

Yeah I think that picture is stupid, I just spent a few minutes testing this out and left the cd like in picture 2. Also by tucking the top flap between those two folded side bits it can actually someone hold itself together. I was using pretty flimsy paper so this didn't work too well.

[–]vergi 0 points1 point ago

Thanks a lot, made one right away seeing how I had a few installation CDs lying around. Really helpful, even though my case didn't turn out to be the best..

[–]DigitalChocobo 0 points1 point ago

You would scrape the data side of the disk way less if you flipped it the other way before you did all this.

That is the point of the case, right? So the disk doesn't get scratched?

[–]moranger 0 points1 point ago

Welp, this is another repost. Well done flachoux!

[–]IgD 0 points1 point ago

Step 1: Don't be functionally useless when it comes to arts and crafts.

[–]IWantAnotherPetRock 0 points1 point ago

Instruction wasn't clear enough, got my dick caught in the fan.

[–]fattyforhire 0 points1 point ago

original post For le lazy

[–]lilgame510 -1 points0 points ago

The instructions weren't clear enough, I got my dick wrapped in paper

[–]picz -3 points-2 points ago

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

[–]SlugsOnToast[!] -2 points-1 points ago

Even easier: Make 10 of them with one of these.
