If we wanted to go deeper, the animations on a few (particularly pulp fiction) were too smooth and not rigid enough to convey the neon light display concept.

Nothing against the quality, I think the illustrations are spot on, but the whole "neon sign" concept was lacking realism, choppy animations that would accurately portray the neon signage is actually easier to produce than smooth, realistic animations.

Yeah. It's not that I don't think these are neat and clever, but they don't show a total understanding of the restrictions that apply to neon signage. If they did, they would be that much cooler.

Well, you grouped all the images in an Imgur upload and posted it here. You didn't create them, so I assume you knew someone else did. Maybe don't post pictures unless you can link to the artist or at least provide a source in the comments?

(Not trying to be an ass, but I know Mr. Whaite and he's an exceptionally cool guy and artist. I love seeing others enjoy his work, just would prefer people know who created them to help get his name -- and not just his art -- out there).

I can't speak for OP, i'm just saying. before i even read any of these comments i checked the link on the pics, and saw the artists twitter account. as someone who has had their stuff re-posted all over places like tumblr with no credit whatsoever, and sometimes even with my credentials removed, i have a hard time getting mad at OP as he left the twitter url in all of the pics and did not try to imply that he made the works himself.

Clark Kent parts his hair differently when he is Superman. It was one of the small touches I really liked in the Christopher Reeve "Superman."

My Dad's trade is glassblowing for neon signs. He had his own business but with the proliferation of LEDs neon is quickly going the way of the dinosaurs, so now he does smaller jobs (repairs etc) when he's not working his day job. Expect Las Vegas to be lit up with LEDs at some point. Kinda sad.

Not any time soon haha. He's been doing it for over 25 years and just from watching him do it I can already tell the Pulp Fiction and Star Wars signs would be a bit more complex, simply because like frame by frame animation, each movement is a completely new section all regulated by a transformer. I'm sure he'd like them as long as someone was paying him to put them together :P
