I bought the kit and built it last year. It's a blast. I leave it on my coffee table and guests love it. IIRC, it's about a $40 kit, it'll require some minor soldering, and the shipping was really expensive, like $20-30.

Worth it, though.

the switch is most likely turning a relay on/off. Doesn't actually turn the power off.

Probably a light spring. Motor overcomes spring tension, turns it off, springs takes it back into the box.

No relays or springs required. The switch (probably DPDT type) changes polarity on the motor. Inside the box, you have a momentary NO switch that turns off the power when the box's finger is fully down and the switch is in the "off" position.
