It's whispering in the baby's ear.

"Make them clean up your poop.

Whine until they feed you.

Get into everything.

Don't listen to a word they say."

Where did you think babies learn it all from?

I am happily married. Two cats. Two dogs. No kids.

Suddenly I'm very worried about the future.

[–]zoodiary8[S] 6 points7 points ago

really very well said and you know very well too :)

[–]RICH_LITTLE 36 points37 points ago

Meanwhile the cat's thinking "Ooo, it's so warm. Thank you for getting me this..."

[–]zoodiary8[S] 4 points5 points ago

you are also right ;)

"Shhhh, sleep tightly my yummy scrumptious morsel. Soon, soon you will be plump and ready."

They told us adopting a feral kitten was a bad idea because we have young kids. Here he is 2 years later, keeping guard of our 2 week old son.

Same here! I adopted a cat that they said was about four years old and was found in a nearby city just roaming around. They had no idea how long it had been wild. So I adopt her and she clearly has some feral tendancies...but over the past two years she has calmed down substantially.

Now I have a two month old daughter, and it was amazing to see what happened when we brought her home. My good ol' wild cat will sleep right next to her at night facing the doorway. And she will not let the male cat get anywhere near the baby.

THIS PICTURE IS A LIE. WHen I was 2 the family cat (Toby) would wait behind corners of the house and jump me as I went by.

[–]scooterjunky 14 points15 points ago

He was training you to be ready for ninja attacks.

[–]nyannekochan 2 points3 points ago

Our old cat did the exact same thing to me. My father knew and did nothing to stop it.

[–]calvannon 5 points6 points ago

My old man did the exact same thing to me. My cat knew and did nothing to stop it.

Does anyone remember the old wives' tale that cats smother babies/steal their breath?

Suddenly remembered reading something like this in an almanac

[–]baconsushi 1 point2 points ago

this might be because cats and dogs like to lay ontop of their humans too. being heavy enough to slowly smother an infant. Not that they mean to. My dad tells the story of how his parents had to give away their dear pomerrainian because she kept climbing up on him and crushing him before he he was big enough to extricate himself. i have one tubby cat that will curl up on my back or chest as i sleep and if i try to move a bit she expresses her displeasure by digging her claws in as warning.

[–]nyannekochan 0 points1 point ago

aww :(

and yes... cats tend to do that XD

Until it lays on the baby's face and suffocates it...

[–]godzuki26 6 points7 points ago

Idunno why the downvotes, I saw my asshole cat jump into the crib and do it right before my eyes, I was there to toss his ass out the room and never ever left them alone together. I'm sure my cat just thought he was a warm spot to snuggle. I was just watching like, "oh look, he wants to sniff him and see what he's all abou- OH DEAR GOD DON'T SIT THERE GTFO"

See also: unintentional claws. I know he didn't mean to scratch my son but my cat would jump too close, claws out for balance and scratch, or stretch his arms out and catch a claw while doing so, it's just not the best idea even when you're right there with kitty to let them snuggle like that.

[–]whitehawk74 5 points6 points ago

cat lover here. Dont encourage that behavior. Cats see babys as heaters and suffocate them. (I know its been said before, im just ramming it home)

[–]trolleyfan 0 points1 point ago

It's been said before, yes...and it was bullshit when it was said then too.

As a quick Google will show.

I mean, if they could smother something (relatively) large as a human infant, what chance would their own kitten's have?

[–]hulagirl4737 0 points1 point ago

this picture is so adorable, but remember not to leave the two of them unsupervised! theres the risk that your cast will snuggle too much and suffocate her

[–]pdaddio2239 1 point2 points ago

this is a bullshit old-wives' tale that leads becoming disowned and neglected. link.

Please do a google search at least before spreading this kinda malarky

[–]Lemon_Kiss 0 points1 point ago

really cause the baby can get sick from the cat

[–]Hieronaut 0 points1 point ago

this almost breaches into /r/WTF territory...that cat is huge!

[–]truth7 2 points3 points ago

Maine Coons (this one looks like one) are one of the largest domestic cat breeds. I had one that was 25 pounds.

[–]chiropter 0 points1 point ago

Also things that are warm.

[–]baconsushi 0 points1 point ago

laptops =cat magnets

[–]astrograph 0 points1 point ago

omg he's pretending.. look at those deceiving eyes!

[–]diznak020 0 points1 point ago

Lie. He is trying to roll the baby over so it can suck its soul out through its mouth.

[–]doctawafflez 0 points1 point ago

almost as legit as "this pic is proof that god lives!" okay a little more legit.

[–]xQcKx 0 points1 point ago

that cat's huge

[–]Marhault 0 points1 point ago

She will be the cause of his allergies.

[–]SubtleMockery 0 points1 point ago

Babies are warm.

[–]OBJECTION__oxox 0 points1 point ago

Lies

What the cat is actually thinking: "I have the tiny human. I demand cat nip, a laser show and a palace built out of boxes. If my demands are not met in 12 hours, the tiny human gets it."

[–]AVeryMadFish 0 points1 point ago

Day 32: I have gained the humans' trust and secured an adequate source of fresh meat. Nightly guard duty is necessary to ensure no others steal my bounty before I have a chance to enjoy it myself.

[–]haveissues 1 point2 points ago

Just be careful leaving them unsupervised. We have the best kitty in the world and a 2 month old. We won't leave them sleeping alone together though. Not that he would harm our daughter intentionally but he might curl up on her to find a warm spot and accidentally smother her. She can barely roll herself over and could never push off the cat.

[–]seroab 1 point2 points ago

Until the cat decides to sleep on that nice warm baby face...

[–]Jejoisland 0 points1 point ago

Cats really don't care what you are as long as you are warm

[–]hiddenbutobvious 0 points1 point ago

XD my parents had a cat that taught my 31 year old brother how to walk because he would walk away and my brother wouldn't let go forcing him to walk lol

[–]lou22 -1 points0 points ago

apparently our cat used to try and sleep on my face, had it succeeded i probably would have died #suffocation

[–]ftblgiants 0 points1 point ago

Or babies are just comfy
