I'm still stuck on that gas guzzle factor.

[–]ParticleSpinClass 9 points10 points ago

Doesn't really matter when you can carry a shitton of gas.

[–]wankingwalrus 7 points8 points ago

What measurement system is that from, 1 shitton?

[–]Google_Alert 2 points3 points ago

If you want to get technical, shit is actually measured in Courics.

[–]ParticleSpinClass 3 points4 points ago

The same one as boattload.

Generally, depending on specific gravity and density, one boatload contains approximately 10-13 shittons.

[–]PNut_Buttr_Panda 1 point2 points ago

wrong actually. Diesel engines are worlds more efficient than unleaded fuel engines this truck could easily outlast any SUV or pickup on a single tank of gas thats the same size.

[–]ParticleSpinClass 1 point2 points ago

I was speaking more generically. I'd be surprised if this thing ran on a gas engine.

[–]Klahvubo -2 points-1 points ago

"single tank of gas" I find it a bit funny how you just described how it's not a gas engine then proceed to say that.

[–]PNut_Buttr_Panda 0 points1 point ago

I was referring to the suv or pickup jackass... Nice grammar troll attempt tho.

[–]JimmerUK 25 points26 points ago

Nice! I'm glad the van from 1998 that was on the front page the other day won.

[–]rbslilpanda 20 points21 points ago

I want this now, zombies or no zombies! I need to get away from all the pre-zombie, human idiots!

[–]2_4_16_256 7 points8 points ago

There was something very similar on /r/DIY not too long ago that was almost the same as this build.

[–]TonyDiGerolamo 2 points3 points ago

Sold. Although it could probably use a few mounted machineguns.

[–]binaryice 1 point2 points ago

those eat up ammo... you'd never be able to carry enough

[–]elapid 0 points1 point ago

Flamethrowers would probably work. You would only need one type of fuel then.

[–]McBEAST 2 points3 points ago

Flaming zombie coming at your truck and you can't get away because you used all your gas on that stupid last stand. Really just put a big cow plow or some swords on it and drive it in circles until you hit them all.

[–]binaryice 1 point2 points ago

Maybe we could come up with something more elegant, but yes, I think driving over them is more effective than flame throwing.

A spear is really effective, maybe you could make a harpoon system, which is crossbow fired, and the bolt returns on cable/chain so that you have infinite shots. You just take the shots from ontop of the cab roof rack, and you can't be attacked while you work.

[–]_JxN 0 points1 point ago

What if you impale but don't kill a zombie then drag it up?

[–]binaryice 1 point2 points ago

Smooth, not barbed harpoon. Good question though.

I'd just sharpen some rebar, and maybe fletch it a bit, put a light cable on it.

Better yet, make two, each with their own winch that you can hook up or disconnect, that way you can have more shots a min.

An even more interesting idea is to put a backhoe or excavator arm together, a really lightweight one would be fine, you don't need a big multi ton system. Then you take off the bucket, and attach a big air hammer, and put a remote on it.

Sorry I work with hydraulic equipment all the time, and the only reason I know the zombie apocalypse will never take over the world, is that a PTO powered Rototiller is like a zombie horde murder machine. Especially if you get a 6 foot wide one, or a flail. You could use one of those forestry systems that chips standing trees....

Heavy machinery would be able to walk through zombie hordes, disintegrating them.

[–]Agent00funk 4 points5 points ago

The thing I don't get about this van is that the interior shots all have windows, but the exterior shots have no windows. So....I think if it has windows, unless they happen to be shatter-proof, would make this just a larger rolling coffin. Not to mention all the bandits who would constantly be trying to steal this shit. And once there is no more gas, you're screwed.

I will stick with my Appalachian cabin.

[–]Andrewm319[S] 0 points1 point ago

If you look at the sides, you can see a cover-like thingy... I'm guessing the windows get covered by that so you have the option to "open" or "close" the windows.

[–]Agent00funk 0 points1 point ago

Maybe my eyes are going bad, but I don't seen anything that could be considered cover, unless it is seamless, in which case, holy fuck German engineering.

[–]benwillmill 0 points1 point ago

I dont mean to bring up an old post, but I solved the mystery of no windows. The top pops up to reveal the windows. I believe that it is one: http://www.unicat.net/en/pics/EX63HDM-MANTGA6x6-2.html edit

[–]Agent00funk 0 points1 point ago

Woah...so the windows all have blast shields? Suddenly this became a little more impressive.

[–]pixelObserver 0 points1 point ago

i guess instead of $10,000/year to keep and maintain a house, you can spend $10,000/year for gas and mobility.

[–]roguewave 6 points7 points ago

What makes you think you'd have to drive this around in circles or all over the country? I'm guessing the person that owns this also has a house. This is an RV.

[–]ThatRedKid 2 points3 points ago

Bathroom? Bathroom.

[–]elapid 1 point2 points ago

If you're driving about and it's the end of the world a hole in the floor will do fine.

[–]Flazhes 1 point2 points ago

This is perfect if you're the comfy type of zombie hunter - having a nice cuppa coffee after a good nights sleep, then start plowing through zombie hordes on the road. But not for me - too heavy, too slow, not really capable of going offroad.

[–]binaryice 2 points3 points ago

The Unamog is very off road capable. More than some 4x4 trucks.

Edit: My point stands, but this might not be an Unimog. It's a Man http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAN_SE.

[–]s3rious_simon 0 points1 point ago

It's unimog, and this isn't one...

[–]binaryice 0 points1 point ago

correct, see edit

[–]Flazhes 0 points1 point ago

Sure, Unimogs are super off road capable (but even slower than this one), but this isn't one.

[–]wankingwalrus 1 point2 points ago

Needs more jetpack

[–]laxinjenn 0 points1 point ago

What kind of truck is this exactly?

[–]s3rious_simon 5 points6 points ago

Nope. Not even close...

[–]laxinjenn -1 points0 points ago

Thank you!

[–]binaryice 0 points1 point ago

You're welcome, I hope you saw the edit.

Man is a big truck manufacturer, and produces a good product, but one that doesn't have the ground clearance or the perfection of the unimog. These are the light versions, the Unimog is the real deal, and does come in 6x6 versions, so you can get the bigger ones if you want.

[–]PNut_Buttr_Panda 0 points1 point ago

Its actually a Unimog that has been converted for the Dakar races and then converted again to an RV.

[–]binaryice 0 points1 point ago

No. It's not. It was never an unimog. It's made by Man, which is another german company, but this one isn't made to the same specs that a unimog is. Unimogs have a much more advanced drive train with absurd ground clearance.

[–]s3rious_simon 1 point2 points ago

A approx 5-ton MAN, some 90s model

[–]Othello 1 point2 points ago

Instead of lusting after all these fortresses, I have a plan to fortify my place such that I could probably live there indefinitely (sans being nuked/firebombed).

[–]Actually_Doesnt_Care 0 points1 point ago

How does this get internet?

[–]smelalie 1 point2 points ago

How do you sit in that chair!?

[–]jaylikesdominos 1 point2 points ago

I've never wanted something so much in my life.

[–]Cowthulu 0 points1 point ago

Anything that relies on non-sustainable fuels is not a good choice for a zombie apocalypse.

[–]Painkiller655321 0 points1 point ago

Does anybody know how much this thing costs?

[–]Traitorblade 0 points1 point ago

anywhere that has more of these awesome kinds of vehicles?

[–]rjostrand 0 points1 point ago

How is everyone talking about the lack of gas, but nobody has mentioned the need for water yet?

[–]Monsieur-Anana 0 points1 point ago

Sweet modified Unimog Batman!

[–]Monsieur-Anana 0 points1 point ago

You know Arnold Schwarzenegger drives one of these

[–]ryanknapper -1 points0 points ago

A winner for most reposted image?

[–]organicbeing 1 point2 points ago

It's bigger on the inside.

[–]Mguy123456789 0 points1 point ago

I WANT TO LIVE IN THAT!

[–]Keksi -2 points-1 points ago

...and we have a repost

[–]Force_Majeure 1 point2 points ago

Where is the snowplow in the front that makes for a perfect zombie plow?

[–]atheistpiece 0 points1 point ago

For what, like 300 miles, then you've run out of fuel and you're fucked?
