I'm doing tough mudder on the 29th. I'm finishing up week two later today. Kill. Me.

[–]hawkinator 1 point2 points ago

I'm doing one as well this weekend. It'll be fantastic... D:

I have a good friend running the one this weekend....but he's in AMAZING shape and is going to win, lol

Howdy! I have done two Warrior Dashes as a result of completing C25K. My advice is in the upcoming month, work on your upper body strength the best you can. I did supersets of rope pulldowns and I really believe that helped me in the obstacles where you had your upper body strength.

You also want to make sure your draws are tied tight. The mud and water gets heavy and you could spend half race holding onto your shorts.

Also, have fun it's blast and you get mud in every crevasse.

I'm planning on wearing compression shorts so I dont' have to worry about my pants falling down.

Also, I've been trying to work my upper body bc I have NO strength whatsoever, but it just suckkkkks. I mean, I hate running, but at least running is easier :(

As long as you can use your upper body to pull yourself over a wall, you'll be golden. It's hard to explain, the one obstacle I had my doubt was a wall at 45 degrees with a rope to climb up. It was easy to walk up with the rope, but the hard part was to grab the top of the structure and pull myself up enough to hook a leg on top of it to get over to the other side.

BTW, running is a hate/love thing with me. I feel better when I'm done.

[–]wwjdforaklondikebar[S] 1 point2 points ago

I've kinda sorta never climbed a rope before in my life.

And there is no where around here that I can climb a rope without spending $80 on a gym membership.

Soooo....fuck.

[–]ImSpicy 0 points1 point ago

I found a pic of that particular obstacle. Here ya go. There isn't any vertical rope climbs without anything to put your feet on, but there is this one.

[–]wwjdforaklondikebar[S] 1 point2 points ago

Okay....I think I can definitely do the first one....not too hopeful about the 2nd. There's also a rock wall.

But I'm still having to run 3.11 miles AND do the obstacles. I'm not optimistic.

[–]ImSpicy 0 points1 point ago

You can do it. Don't worry about your time. There are going to be bottlenecks of people before the obstacles (depends on where you are in a pack), but just keep chugging along and you'll make it. My biggest piece of advice is to jump as high as you fucking can when you get to the fire obstacle, you can feel the heat on your Linus and Charlie Browns.

[–]wwjdforaklondikebar[S] 1 point2 points ago

can we just walk around the obstacles?

[–]ImSpicy 0 points1 point ago

You could, but it's where the fun is at. Some of the obstacles give your lungs a rest too between the running segments.

I just did it yesterday! It was at a ski resort, which means uphill. And by that, I mean up STEEP hills. It was rough. The vast majority of people walked the slopes, which felt like they'd never end - the trail would curve around and look like it would flatten out, but once you'd reach the curve it would just go up more. My goal ended up being simply to not stop, which a lot of people did. But it was so much fun c: A couple of the obstacles did require some strength, but I only started weightlifting a little over a month ago and I managed just fine. Although I'm extremely sore today D: Good luck!

[–]malevolenc 0 points1 point ago

I think it completely depends on where you are doing it. I did it in Central Florida in January and by far the hardest part was running in sand the whole time. I was really worried about some of the obstacles before the race but they turned out to be pretty easy. The toughest of them was the water crossing and that's only due to the 55° water temp.

[–]wwjdforaklondikebar[S] 0 points1 point ago

I'm doing it in Louisiana at a Tiki Tubing place...so that'll be interesting

[–]BonusHam 0 points1 point ago

I want to do one but, frankly, I'm a big ball of wuss. I am on week 6 of C25K and the one in my town is in a couple weeks. I think I could do it except for the upper body stuff. I am trying the stuff on their website. The mountain climbers very nearly killed me in an embarrassingly public spot in the gym.

[–]BonusHam 2 points3 points ago

I know mountain climbers are not upper body, I have been doing kettle bell stuff for that. And by "doing" I mean I did it once And spent two weeks bitching about how bad I hurt.

[–]Peroxyde 1 point2 points ago

Muscle soreness goes away pretty quickly, you just have to keep lifting and make sure you take in enough protein (and I mean a lot of fucking protein).

After you work a muscle group a couple times the muscle soreness gets significantly better.

[–]wwjdforaklondikebar[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I'm a girl and I felt silly buying a big vat of protein today....

My bff told me that he uses "pain is strength entering the body" instead of "weakness leaving the body" as his mantra....I just have to keep remembering that when I wanna lay in bed and cry cuz I'm so sore

[–]Peroxyde 0 points1 point ago

Well that is a good outlook.

Also anyone who thinks women can't/shouldn't lift or buy protein is dumb.

[–]wwjdforaklondikebar[S] 0 points1 point ago

I live in the south. There are a lot of ppl who look at you funny when you buy it. They just assume I have a boyfriend I'm buying it for. Forever Alone :(

[–]dasmi3 0 points1 point ago

I'm doing the Warrior Dash this coming Sunday! Good luck on your race!

[–]wwjdforaklondikebar[S] 0 points1 point ago

You too!!!

I haven't even finished c25k, so you're waaaayyyy more prepared than I am!!!

[–]jayem711 0 points1 point ago

I used to C25k to train for it, it worked great. We did it in early june in Oklahoma, and it was alot of fun. My wife does not have much upper body strength and was able to complete the warrior dash without much problem. It took us forever, but was alot of fun even though it was near 100 degrees.

[–]wwjdforaklondikebar[S] 0 points1 point ago

This. This comment makes me feel better. I have VERY little upper body strength, so I feel a whole lot better. And it may not be 100 degrees out here, but the humidity in Louisiana is a killer....I'm tempted to snort some coke or something before I go so I'll at least have a little energy to make it through, lol

[–]davedawg2000Just started :D 1 point2 points ago

Just wrapped up W3D1 this morning, with my Warrior Dash scheduled for Saturday, October 28, which should put me right around Week 8 or so if all goes according to plan. Excited but a bit nervous as well :/

[–]wwjdforaklondikebar[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yeaaahhhhhh....mine is October 13th and I'm doing it as a birthday present to myself bc I'm turning 28 and I've never done anything like this before.

I'm SUPPOSED to be on W7D3, but I got hurt and had to take a couple weeks off and now I'm barely able to do W6D2. Its killing me.

[–]ilovemarshall69 0 points1 point ago

I thought this was in /r/adventuretime :P

There's the link to the show's subreddit in case anyone didn't know what the source was.

[–]Conversation_16 0 points1 point ago

would be much awesome if there was sound, still fantastic

[–]faymao 0 points1 point ago

I did Warrior Dash! You can do it, too!

You totally have this!

And it's super fun.
