Does anyone know if this is from a longer story? He says "when I crawled out of the truck..." which makes me think it must be part of something larger. I'd love to read the rest.

Here is an album with a few of the guy's works. The author is redditor /u/John_Norad

These are excellent, thank you.

If it isn't too much to ask, could someone explain what this means? I mean, I can catch the overall gist of it, but I feel like there's an underlying message that I don't understand.

[–]__BeHereNow__ 23 points24 points ago

Well, it's open to interpretation. The obvious Buddhist interpretation would be Anicca, or impermanence. Everything changes. That's the Dharma in two words for you. Even Bhrahma, the uber-god, is subject to change and death. There's nothing and no-one you can hang on to in this samsara. So... stop trying. Move on. Go beyond.

You can't reach the safe haven of nirvana by walking to the end of the world, nor can nirvana be attained without going to the end of the world. I guess that makes the ending a cliff-hanger.

Isn't it Brahman?

[–]__BeHereNow__ 2 points3 points ago

Maybe that's how it's spelled, but that's not how it's spoken. The n at the end is a nasal sound. The word "Brahmin" is actually pronounced "Brahman", which is basically the priestly Hindu caste.

[–]Kiwi150Buddho-Christian 3 points4 points ago

the only reason I spoke up is because there is a lesser god Brahma and ultimate god Brahman

[–]__BeHereNow__ 4 points5 points ago

Ah, ok, different thing. Brahma is the god, Brahmaan basically means the universe/unity. Brahmaan wouldn't be anthropomorphised, imo. Since it's everything, it can't have any features.

[–]kermadvaita/shaktism 0 points1 point ago

That's the gist from my perspective. Brahma is part of the trimurti, which consists of Brahma - the creator, Vishnu - the sustainer and Shiva - the destroyer. They are all different aspects or manifestations of Brahman (supreme) consciousness. Everything you can imagine is Brahman, but so is It's set complement (including absolute void). Therefore, It is beyond all conception, so no description can possibly be adequate.

[–]__BeHereNow__ 1 point2 points ago

Yeah. That's my understanding too. My personal opinion on this may be a little controversial OTOH. I believe that Brahman is the same as Sunyata. Everythingness=Nothingness precisely because it's empty of all possible conceptions and properties. But then, I always have a need to reconcile Buddhism and Advaita, but that's just me.

The guy is so jaded though. He does not seem to be happy.

[–]__BeHereNow__ 5 points6 points ago

Well, I really don't think it's a 100% Buddhist comic. But even if it is, it just shows Dukkha. We are all drifting through samsara, suffering and aimless.

[–]teamatreides 1 point2 points ago

We make the ending, perhaps ;)

[–]SamuraiSam100 8 points9 points ago

why would this be on r/wtf? its genius!

[–]Vellon221 10 points11 points ago

quack

[–]vplatt 1 point2 points ago

mu

"Old McDonald had a farm, ee eye ee eye oh!"

[–]teamatreides 9 points10 points ago

Precisely because it is genius. People look at it and they don't immediately understand. (Not that I do. I enjoy the message within, I'm sure I'll realize something later. Whatever. Moving on :D)

I think sometimes we expect things to make sense from our point of view, when we encounter something that challenges it on a level, we think, "What the fuck?"

[–]A_Cunt_Nugget 10 points11 points ago

Wait a minute, is there really a xpost from r/wtf on this subreddit. Huh.

[–]sally_jupiter 4 points5 points ago

It actually happens quite a bit. "The Egg" was crossposted from wtf here a few weeks ago, I think.

[–]psyyduck 4 points5 points ago

Smile and let it go.

[–]SaintBratPublic 3 points4 points ago

I see it as a trip report of an hallucinogenic experience...

[–]vplatt 1 point2 points ago

Or a meditation attainment.
